Most MPs who have had a job already have usually been lawyers which isn't exactly the most trustworthy of careers depending on what sort of law you have practiced e.g. Sadiq Khan. Sadly being an MP is just like any other job to many, get your foot in the door, get on a few select committees and you are set for life as a non-executive board member or special advisor. Money for old rope.

Rather than people supporting the tories, isn't it more the case that people just don't want Labour in its current guise?

The tories are currently the less **** option. I reckon if Labour got a back bone, and opently binned off all the alphabet groups that cling to them like BLM, LGBTQ etc, they'd stand a much better chance.
