I think the main point is we wouldn't have spent £50 million on someone who is no improvement on our current right back.

    He wouldn't be.

I thought all your defensive positions were empty spaces, apart from de Gea.

Would I swap any of Utd's defenders for ours?

    Answer is simple. No!

Yeah, true. But their back four are no great shakes.

No it's not. We had the 2nd best defence in the league. The reason we finished sixth was more to do with the lack of goals we managed to score.

Not bad for a back four riddled with injuries last season.

I thought it was a back nine you had

Alternately, you dropped points in six games from winning positions last season and drew more games than any other club in the league suggests your manager has a park the bus mentality.

What you said doesn't have to mean your defenders are great. It might mean that you play defensive football. Put Klopp in charge of Juventus right now and their defensive solidity would go to pop.

Mourinho could make most Premier league defenders keep a good 'goals conceded' record. Doesn't mean they're necessarily the best defenders around.

Ok pal, unless you want to explain how conceding more goals makes a defence better then I think it's a pretty cut and dry statement.

    Nobody said anything about individuals.

  18. It isn't surprising that United had a good defensive record but a **** goal-scoring record.

It's because The Smug One put 11 men behind the ball for most matches.

Yeah they did. NSIS said your back four (ie individual defenders) are no great shakes. You said you had the second best defence (ie unit) in the league. I said having a good defence doesn't necessarily mean having good defenders making your reply to NSIS via ginger marks invalid.

    So wheres the confusion?

I wasn't replying to NSIS I was replying to GM about a comment he made saying our defence is the reason we finished 6th.

The reason we finished sixth was a team effort and certainly wasn't largely because we shipped too many goals.

Brush that up however you want pal but the table shows we had the 2nd best defence after Spurs and you lot had the 6/7 best which is no surprise really given the personnel.
