@Hefty fullback you can't honestly be comparing the stats of a 39 year old goalkeeper with a 24 year old lad who's only in his 3rd full season? I hugely admire loyalty but apart from the fact that any comparison between the 2 at the moment borders on the ridiculous, you almost have to admit that statistics can be ripped apart with just a little effort. Maybe in 10 years you can make a more robust argument but not at the moment mate
Tim Howard (First two seasons at Everton) Appearances 72 Clean sheets 28 Wins 34 Losses 17 Goalkeeping Saves 223 Penalties saved 1 Punches 31 High Claims 126 Catches 102 Sweeper clearances 0 Throw outs 312 Goal Kicks 798 Defence Clean sheets 28 Goals conceded 59 Errors leading to goal 1 Own goals 0 Discipline Yellow cards 2 Red cards 0 Fouls 3 Team Play Goals 0 Assists 0 Passes 1365 Passes per match 18.96 Accurate long balls 200
Over/Under is a popular bet for the total number of points scored in a NFL football game - I was applying the same notion to life expectancy.
A good keeper no doubt. Your struggle is you're saying he's head and shoulder above a player who looks destined to be World Class. Something no one would ever say Tim Howard was. If pickford keeps going the way he has he could end up spending most of his career at one of the world's biggest clubs. Again, not something Tim Howard can boast.
Would it not be better to compare his first seasons in the premier league? When he was a laughing stock at United? All that tourettes stuff.
I'm not saying that at all, but the numbers do sort of indicate just that. This thread took an odd twist. I started out as a more casual football fan, only interested in international contests. Howard usually manged to impose himself forcefully on these matches. As more of our national teamers went to europe to play, I started to watch club football. I was surprised to see that Howard wasn't able to exert the same influence over a club match. When I saw Pickford twice this year, he certainly didn't look invincible. But right now, this week, he does. Enjoy it. He's at the height of his powers but normalcy beckons.
Jordan Pickford will have a better career than Tim Howard, no doubt in my mind. Howard was a good keeper, no more IMO. Let’s bump this thread in 15 years and see what happens then. Pickfords ceiling is not Everton either, it’s Champions League football.
Howard was a very good keeper never destined for greatness. Pickford is young, now first choice for England probably for the next 10 years, and idolised. Press home and abroad are swooning about him. Howard wasn’t all that dominant in his box, and sometimes he was shocking on low drilled crosses for example. Pickford is still improving, he’s heading towards vein one of the best keepers in the world at a time of far stronger competition than Howard, who never was. I guess that you think Landon Donovan was on Kane’s level as well?
