Or your wifes team(when they looked like winning the league last year). Haven't heard much about your second love Liverpool lately.
Ah, right. Sorry, I thought you were trying to admit something to us. I do think OCF's post sums it up for me too. As you go through your football-supporting life, you build your own history. I remember all those players too. It doesn't make me a better fan - just older - but those memories will stick with me. Have to say I always admire those posters who refer to certain bits of games that happened years ago. I never retain that stuff, even though I was probably there!
In a way history is difficult to define. To children going to school today WW1 and WW2 is ancient history. To my generation, brought up by Dads who fought in WW2 and Grandfathers who fought in WW1, it was everyday conversation and not even history. My Grandad watched City play at Newmarket Road in 1902 and listening to him talk about those days and matches at the Nest was far more interesting than reading it in a book. To many younger fans they have only known Carrow Road as it is today and if they want to see what it looked like in 1950, when I first went to Carrow Road, they can look at a photo in a book but a book cannot tell them what I could tell them from my own experiences about the history of Carrow Road. I saw every game in the 58/59 Cup Run and also both legs of the League Cup win against Rochdale - does that make me a better supporter than any of you youngsters? No but it gives you bragging rights in Pub discussions!! History is usually based on peoples experiences at the time so if you want to know about the Club history don't buy a book - ask us old farts. We will usually be more than happy to run on about it for hours - especially if you buy us a pint first!! Just remember - when we have gone you will have books as the only source of information.
what else do you expect on a thread about History on the Norwich board JWM? The biggest thing in norwichs history is that they once designed a shirt with bird **** on it!
But that is not history Dave, at least in some eyes. The fact that those wins are in the past make them part of history, ours and the binners.
Crikey. First post and it's a mediocre wum attempt on someone else's board. I wonder if there'll be a second. I can hardly wait!
