The Club I was at when it first happened had a black player who used to just stand there and look perplexed. When I asked him why he didn't join in his exact words were 'because its all f***ing show, you're either a racist **** or you're not and some of the players doing it are racist as ****'. I was responsible for making the club the first Rugby League club to sign the Muslim Athlete charter and 2 players who I have seen taking the knee made racist comments about muslims/asians off the back of it. For me it is pointless symbolism and will never make a difference to the root of the issue.

Anyone can bend down on one knee or wear a t-shirt with a slogan on. The way to deal with this is be a responsible human being and make sure your kids are brought up knowing that skin colour should not be a factor in how you behave towards someone. They are born without prejudice and any racist views they gain are caused by learned behaviour. The problem we have is a very large percentage of people who are not fit to become parents and will happily share racist views, swear, smoke or get pissed in front of their kids.

Yes when all is said and done it is a pointless empty gesture, but ultimately there are people who were actually against it. For some unfathomable reason, as they will claim it’s not because they’re racist. As long as those ‘people’ breathe then it should continue.

I was and am 100% against it. If you need it explaining as to why then there's really not much hope for you.
    Lot of sense from JimTheTiger.
It's surely time 'we' (media, politically motivated groups, etc) stopped this continual highlighting of the differences; as has been said, most people, especially the young, don't even really notice the differences. Similar with homophobia, gender issues, etc - take the air away from those who have financial or political reasons for keeping the spotlight on. Instead, just have the authorities take meaningful action against real acts of racism and discrimination.

What is it hurting, what damage does it cause? Seriously. The only reason people want it gone is because they don’t like it. The kind of people who say all lives matter.

What’s that got to do with anything? It has eventually become an empty gesture, but it infuriated a certain demographic of people early doors which meant it definitely had purpose at one point. Now as you say the clubs need to take a more hands on direct approach but i worry that what your views are if something as harmless as that has had you always against it for the last 2 years…

So you can’t think of a good reason it should go?

You're perfectly entitled to be 100% against it. Those who are not are entitled to their opinion also. This type of insult is unnecessary, patronising, condescending and most of all makes you look like a ****.

Because it’s not achieving its objective and if anything will in time just cause more division.

    EDIT:
Ok, maybe I shouldn't have added that last sentence ("If you need it explaining as to why then there's really not much hope for you).
    But,
    a) this wording in the OP wound me up a little ....... "For some unfathomable reason, as they will claim it’s not because they’re racist. As long as those ‘people’ breathe then it should continue".
    b) I have strong views about the empty, divisive gesturing that has links back to a destructive politically motivated movement (I know there are other links, history, etc). I would much rather see integrity from all those involved in these empty gestures; JTT touched on this, and it goes further with things like the 'respect' campaign / slogan (v's what many of them then do themselves in reality). I'd rather see real action.
    c) how can someone with a username of 'Amin Yapusi' credibly give an opinion on a topic related to racism, respect, discrimination? Seriously.

    Post pre-edit:
I've stated my view and given my comments. I'm not getting into a tedious slanging match or whatever. If in some people's opinion what I've said makes me somehow racist, seem like a ****, or whatever, then fine. I know I'm not and that's what matters. Taking the knee was and continues to be utterly ridiculous, as is someone spouting off about things like this behind a user name of 'Amin Yapusi'.
Carry on, waste your day, if you wish..

That is exactly what you have instigated and if you need it explaining as to why there’s really not much hope for you.

Some woman broadcaster was saying she couldn’t celebrate the women’s win because of the lack of diversity in the team. <laugh>

Yes, it infuriated people who thought this was all brought about by the death of an extremely unpleasant individual. There were far more deserving cases which would have received more support.

He served time for his crime, are you suggesting because of what he did in 2007 we should turn our eyes away from a police officer kneeling on the back of his neck until he stopped breathing? This was over him allegedly using a counterfeit 20$ note…
