You could probably level that accusation at quite a few modern managers though, unfortunately. Guardiola is the most obvious candidate. Ferguson might've done exceptionally well with Man Utd, but his work at Aberdeen is almost more impressive. Winning the Cup Winners Cup and Super Cup, as well as multiple titles and other cups? Can you see Mourinho doing that?
Mourinho would be like a fish out of water without a big cheque book to back him. He's basically done **** all to develop any team other than buying the most expensive players he can get. His record of developing youth players is atrocious, even to the point where he's bought up other promising youth players to stop them going to rival teams, and then letting them rot in the reserves or loaning them out.
My point still stands, no-one had heard of Deco, Maniche, McCarthy, Costinha before they played in the champions league in the 2003-04 season.
Costinha was 29, a full international for five years and had won Ligue 1 with Monaco. McCarthy was also a full international and had won the Eredivisie and two cups with Ajax. None of that has anything to do with Mourinho completely outspending the rest of his league, though. Which he did. Again.
I still don't agree with people when they call him a cheque book manager, I find that to be a myth to be honest. He also does give young players a chance if they're good enough, look at Rashford, people were saying he wouldn't get any game time for us this season, he's played a lot of games for us already this season.
Rashford had already established himself, though. Mourinho doesn't blood youth players. He rarely gives unproven players a chance and spends loads on new transfers, instead. That's just factual information that's easily found. Chelsea's youth system has had a ton of money thrown at it and it's very successful. They've got a very large number of talented players on their books, but virtually none of them got games under him. It's hard to argue with his success, but he doesn't care about bringing young players into the side.
... I'd heard of Deco's brother, Art, and McCarthy was a big name on the outing witches scene tbf ...
So basically you don't want a debate at all then Matth, you just want to tell everyone that the mad one is the better manager. It's strange that last year under Van Gaal, when Utd wasn't doing so well, you were nowhere to be seen. Now you have the madman in charge, your back like a nasty rash.
