That's true. Although it would be a more impressive achievement to win it three times in a row. Only one manager has ever done that, and he went and did it twice! Other than Newcastle, Liverpool, Arsenal and, ironically enough, Chelsea. Look up the figures if you don't believe me SAF only outspent the rest of the PL once, in summer 2001. And how dare he spend all that money he earned from winning three titles in a row. Rest of the time we were never the highest spenders.
I enjoy the way some of the mancs have convinced themselves that because of the money City and Chelsea spent that Fergie somehow won things on a shoe string!! It's ****ing hilarious.
It's like you've gone back to UIR 2014, what you so cross about.... I'd have thought you'd have lightened up a bit now United are back contesting Arsenal's top 4 trophy.
No one's convincing themselves it was a shoe string. He spend a lot of money, some of it well, some of it poorly. What's hilarious is the attempt to rewrite history by certain Chelsea and City fans to convince themselves that Utd had some mythical and massive financial advantage. Conveniently ignoring how their own clubs spend as much as Utd year after year with nowt to show for it. Or are you going to tell me Stanic, Gudjohnsen, Hasselbaink, Sutton, Deschamps, Casiraghi, Zola, Di Matteo, Leboeuf and Furlong () all joined Chelsea on a free?
"Chelsea fans and UIR in thread derailing shocker!" You ladies really need to get a room. Preferably the one from Fifty Shades of Grey...
I think you mentioned change he (Fergie) found down the back of a sofa earlier. Don't know how big Fergie's sofa is but unless it was big enough to fit fatty Shaw on, I can't imagine you'd find Berbs 35 million or RVP's 25 million down the back of it....
Lol i just had a look (i didnt look at net spend, i know people argue against this but i think its actually important to look at net spend) and bloody hell Liverpool and Newcastle were the biggest wasters in the world. United started spending big from 01 onwards but i guess fergie had already won quite a few titles by then. Back on topic - would any united fans tell Van Gaal to **** off and bring kloppity klopp in? He could build a new dynasty and he would allow the players to play rather than stuck in Van Gaals rigid structure (almost mourinho-esque!)
This. Sustaining it is really difficult. Winning title after title even with a very good team was very often taken for granted by our younger supporters. United ought to be there by right. Because it has good players and the stadium is big...?? They now know better don't they? It is more difficult to maintain success and domination over decades than to go to a big club as a new face and get success especially if you are provided with the massive sums required. Managers do nick a title with some good players coming together or with a club buying expensive top players: Dalglish did it, Pellegrini did it. Brenda should have won it last year but lost his nerve as well as some of his key players . City and Pellegrini showed how it takes a very good manager to get your satiated players to maintain their motivation and hunger. And it takes an exceptional almost unique manager to dismantle and to rebuild several title winning sides. When I said that Ferguson going will cause a massive upheaval and will cause us to go into a deep trough for a few years people said I was ****ing exagerating. Jose is very good and is a top manager. He may well do but I can't see him and Chelsea dominating the premiership over a long period with Arsenal and United around. City are still about and are not finished yet.
