Franco, the stories centred around his discretion and dignity when there was a lot of big money activity going on around him. The eventual fee was around £5m and he tripled his earnings, but there was no sense of 'this is where I deserve to be' or swanking around. Rumours are that he went for a quiet drink with everyone on his last day and made it clear that he would have been quite happy staying, but the deal secured his future and was too good to turn down. What's astounded me about his departure from Blackpool is that with Charlie Adam on his way (presumably) they'd need someone to drive midfield - surely Reid would fit the bill? Maybe not. If money were no object, I'd have him back at The Valley like a shot.
Heard a very strong rumour about Kish returning, but it all depended upon whether we had a full squad or not. If we get all our targets then unlikely, but if we are one or two short then maybe. User name is my families former Regiment, the Rifle Brigade, before it became the Royal Green Jackets, and the today's Rifles. Sharp was indeed part of the 95th Essex Rifles, a pre runner of the Rifle Brigade.
Thanks for that Tewkes... That all rings true cos during our brief chat he seemed a pretty decent and down to earth sort of fella. He also made it clear that he enjoyed his time with us. I totally agree with you in terms of him being an ideal replacement for Charlie Adam. I wonder if him leaving Blacpool was more down to him not settling in the area. It'll never happen in a million years but I'd have him back in a heartbeat. He's being heavily linked to Forest. I reckon that'll be a good option for him. After all, it's a club he knows well where he'll be well received because he played some of the best football of his career there. Good luck to him...
