Remember, we have direct comparisons at Spurs - David Pleat and Glenn Hoddle. Pleat's season in charge in 1986-7 saw us reach and FA Cup final and in a good position to challenge for the title, only to lose a bunch of games in hand and finish third. His second stint saw us lose when 3-0 up against Man City at half time, and consider Jacques Santini an improvement. Hoddle, meanwhile, may have been one of the most iconic players in our history, but as a manager he was found wanting in so many ways - and replaced by Pleat, ironically enough... There's a difference to recent past and things that happened a generation ago. Banging on about things that happened several decades ago, essentially trying to play Top Trumps, is utterly meaningless - mainly because going down that road will eventually lead you to deciding that the greatest team in English football is Aston Villa, because they were so dominant during the Victorian era. For a more recent example, there were Forest fans going on about winning the European Cup when they were in Division Two/League One a few seasons ago, which just left them open to ridicule from rival fans because it made the club look that bit more ridiculous. The fact is Kenny tarnished his legacy, with inept tactics, interviews that bordered on psychosis, publicly defending a racist for weeks on end, and trying to make out he was unfairly sacked because he negotiated a shirt sponsorship deal whilst dragging the team to their worst league performance for nearly 60 years. The fact is, the signs were always there during his spell at Newcastle, where his tactics were often all wrong and he made some baffling pronouncements during his time there, notably against Stevenage before that FA Cup tie, plus bringing in several members of the Anfield Old Guard (namely Ian Rush and John Barnes, plus his own son in a blatant piece of nepotism) long after they were any use to a top flight club, yet that was conveniently forgotten.
Maybe by you. Or, as by the vast majority, he'll be remembered, however grudgingly, as a great player and a successful manager, who tried but failed a comeback. His legacy will also include vast work off the field during the Hillsborough fallout. But no, you remember him with your slanted view, it's your choice. We all hope BR does better, we may have favourites but we're not stupid.
How quickly will you turn on him if things don't quite go your way? With Kenny-boy, most of you stuck by him right to the bitter end, even though he was a bigger failure than Gentleman Roy. My suspicion is that you'll want him out by Xmas, like you did with poor old Roy.
Seriously, why are Spurs fans becoming obsessed with LFC and their goings on? Its getting like the Mancs on RedCafe. Go on here, SC or.TV etc and its the same. Shouldn't you be more worried about Arsenal and Chelsea rather than little old Liverpool as their the two clubs who more than likely going to make you getting in the top 4 extremely difficult, especially if you sell Modric and no-one will stump up the cash and wages for RVP. Don't worry about LFC were **** at the moment but we'll be back one day.
Jesus! How many times have we got to keep explaining this? Your board is like a slap-stick version of Brookside. Pure comedy gold. We're not obsessed with you, we are highly amused by you. There is a massive difference. Go on! Do that catch-phrase that you Mousers do. The one about next season being your season. Oh, please! Do it!
Non LFC fans just can't understand why we wanted to get rid of Hodgson so quick, and there's no point any of us trying to explain it either as you won't get as non-LFC fans and I'm sure other LFC fans will back me up on this. I can't be arsed with the nonsense so all I'm going to say is we are one of the most patient set of fans there is. Most of us didn't want kenny gone (I did however but in a tiny minority), but that was the owners call, not the fans, and Hodgson was a complete and utter anomaly due to who he was and his way of doing things which is unlikely to happen again. Look how patient we were with Rafa despite rival fans, clubs and their staff and a massive Media campaign over two years to get Rafa out, but the vast majority of us stood by him and didn't want him to go and would love to have him back. How is that not patient from the fans? More patient than most other clubs would have been in the same circumstances. We also stood by Houllier despite 2 final bads seasons and there was no calls or pressure from the fans for him to go, again that was down to the board. Again, much more patient with him than say Villa fans were with him. Besides Hodgson firings have been down to the board. We have always been known as some of the most faithful and patient fans in the country (especially the match going fans) and I can assure you that has not changed and it will be the same with Rodgers who has got off to a great start and has impressed the club staff, players and fans alike already. Also, Rodgers is the first Manager that is FSGs. Another crucial fact that non-LFC fans miss. he will get at the very least 2 seasons from them but probably more so long as were not in the bottom half of the table and the fans will give him at the very least the same, but if he carries on as he's started I think the fans will buy into his ways and give him even longer. The problem is oppositon fans read the loony bin that is RAWK and generalise some of the goons on theres opinions as fact to all LFC fans. Ignore that place.
You're an idiot and obviously don't want to converse like a matire sensible adult, hell you are probably 14 based on that last reply, so I'm going to put you on ignoe and reply to proper Spurs fans who might want to have a serious adult conversation about our two great clubs.
Hodgson was terrible - his tactics, his style... so poor. Honestly never felt worse as a Liverpool supporter than when he was in charge. As for BR, he stands for the brand of football I've wanted to see Liverpool play for years, so I'll certainly be giving him time. It's (historically) rare for a manager at LFC to have less than a couple of seasons at any rate. We are in extraordinary times (for good or worse) right now. For the record also, I was against Kenny being anything other than caretaker manager.
As much as Dalglish did last season as a manager and for all his failings that people perceive outside LFc, this is true. The fee's and wages are completely at Comolli's door and people need to remember that. I'd of thought this would of been an obvious thing for Spurs fans who were also hexxed by the french one.
Yes, I'm not arguing he has failings, but his legacy will be a rich and successful one, as what he did in the past clearly outweighs recent problems. And, any talk of 'legacy' inherently includes the past, however long ago that may be. But thank you for a reasoned and well considered response, I agree with most of what you say. I just can't accept HIAG's constant puerile nonsense. He writes like a trainee for the S*n.
Better warn 'The Clinic' HIAG might be on his way sometime soon. Zlatan Ibrahimovic + Thiago Silva (£51.3m) cost less than Jordan Henderson and Andy Carroll (£55m)
No, you're not. You love my posts far too much. By the way, what is an "ignoe"? Is that Scouse prison-talk?
Why not? They're only words on a computer screen. No one is going to die because of it. And, in any event. what I say is mainly the truth.
The truth according to you perhaps, but maybe you should look beyond your nose and realise that you're far too obsessed with Liverpool. It's not healthy, and it seems like your hatred/envy (assuming you grew up in Liverpool's glory days) are far larger than your support for Spurs. It's fine to have a dislike of a club; I thoroughly dislike Man United for example, and I can't say I like Newcastle all that much either, but you won't find me, nor any other Liverpool fan post endless fallacies about their fans. Apart from anything else, I hope you realise you've tarnished the name of Spurs supporters on this forum simply with your inane ramblings.
Well if you are so unintelligent that you are unable to differentiate between individual supporters it hardy matters does it.
I think you'll find, it's a means of cross-communication between Man Utd fans, and our own. Not "about." Anything referring to Intelligence coming from you is just hilarious. Proof in point that perhaps it's not all down to HIAG.
On day it might occur to some Liverpool fan that they're giving us ammunition. Sort of like their club, in other words - Fenway posting on their website that Dempsey had signed for Liverpool the other day springing to mind...
I know... In a way I feel sorry for you. You must accept that he does give a negative tinge to the Spurs board for the discerning Liverpool fan... Saying that there are plenty of good posters on the Spurs board, who have added to discussion on the Liverpool board on occasions - such as your fellow mod Yid Vicious. And, as Ze has already said, it's a banter thread... which has kept the board nearly completely free of any Liverpool vs United threads, which crippled the Liverpool board on the old 606. Turned out to be a mistake by a night shift journalist in the States The partisanship on football forums is incredible!
