...the story starts with a colonel, some spiced flour and some chicken ... but they ran out of chicken ...

I had similar issues when I started my restaurant business... we were serving Tadpole Tits On Toast as the special ... but we ran out of bread ...

But my point was that i suggested they did not run out of chicken, it was the supply chain that was at fault. Customers clearly do not understand how the distribution chain works or the size of it. So KFC i believed closed outlets that were to be temporary excluded from that supply chain. People take it for granted when they go to their stores but they have no idea of the logistics behind it on a daily basis. Hence why during extreme weather conditions we run out of food in days, because people panic buy and the delivery demands cannot be met, and the same for KFC they switched their distribution and the whole thing collapsed. I know it's like picking at chicken bones to get people to understand the difference. I've never checked out DHL's delivery network or it's capacity but it certainly fooked up.

So just had a read up, it appears KFC switched from specialists in delivery Bidvest to DHL which is typical company that is scratching around for work but as always with these type of companies have absolutely no idea of the logistics they are taking on, and the whole thing was brought about as usual by cost cutting exercises, cost savings that have now probably been wiped out!
