I'm only saying mate, you can't claim that this thread has been improved by merging can you?

I'm not particularly bothered but an 'important' debate has been shot to **** and I'll guarantee a replacement/replacements will pop up in no time

Been saying that all weekend mate, the man is an incompetent ****er.
That should be the last game the cheating bastard is put in charge of.

Kevin Friend also waved a yellow card in the air after Fletcher's clash with their gk. A lot of people seemed to have missed that. As he never gave a penalty I can only assume that he booked Fletcher for diving. Did he in fact book Fletcher or was he just waving a card about in general incompetence.

I noticed that, i think he was going to book fletcher as he had completely lost the plot by that point, so general incompetence

No, he had just booked Larsson for making his mouth go about the challenge on Fletcher.

The referee let play carry on after seeing Fletcher flat out on the pitch .......... would he have done that if it had been Begovic and would Stoke have been happy if we scored during the time he was down?

Smug, it was obvious from the clash that Fletcher was/could have been hurt, Friend has a duty of care to the players and should have stopped the game immediately and restarted with a drop ball.

He was quick enough to show Larsson the card, he should have been concentrating on the game, refs can show cards when there is a break in play.

But as by giving us nowt for the challenge, he was basically saying there was no contact, so to stop the game to allow Fletcher to get treatment would have meant him admitting that he was totally wrong with a disgraceful decision against us for the 2nd time in the game..

No, a player can get hurt in a legitimate challenge just as much as they can from a foul. Whether Friend deemed it a foul or not, his duty of care extends to all players on the pitch and if there is the slightest doubt of a serious injury he should err on the side of caution and stop the game, the pace at which Fletcher and their keeper came together looked in real time like it could result in a serious injury.

Edit: MrRaw I think the challenge was a penalty and a sending off. If it was an outfield player with his feet that high it would have been a foul, a keeper can use his hands so their is no excuse (just in case it looked like I was siding with Friend)
