A Jamie Mackie with skill, could be exactly what we need at the moment. Always liked him and if he's motivated for this could be very usefull for us. I have no problem with this signing if we have one more up our sleeves.
I remember him being great a couple of years ago but well out of touch with how he is now, playing regularly? Wolves fans be sad to see him go?
Only 3 goals in 23 appearances this season for Wolves though doesn't make positive reading. There must be better options out there. I'd like to see us make 1 'Statement' signing. The likes of Wickham, Ings, Rhodes et al to show real intent.
When wolves were relegated from the Prem, Liverpool made a serious play to buy him. The club asked him to stay with the intention of immediate promotion back to the Prem. Since then, wolves have been in decline and Doyle has found himself languishing in the lower leagues. He lost his place in the Irish team and then the squad. I can't say with any degree of certainty what his attitude is like now, only that I read over Christmas that he was going to knuckle down, get a transfer away from Wolves and try and make it back into the Irish squad before the start of the Euros. He has never been prolific. But he is big strong and surprisingly mobile. He is 110% committed and I think our fans will like him. He's ideal as a lone forward or is a very good foyle for a second forward. He will make their CBs work for the duration of the whole game. On a six month loan, IMO it's good business and let him prove himself to everybody. If not, just let him go. It was only two years ago that he kept Long out of the Irish team. Not a complete solution to our goal scoring problems but he may prove to be a very shrew short term solution.
Doyle's situation at Wolves - also O Hara, Hennessy and Ebank-Blake's - is analogous to our situation with Cesar and other out of favour high earners. He is on roughly 40k per week I believe in a contract signed when Wolves were in the prem (remember that?!) The owner wants the high earners off the books but they are refusing to agree to lower their salaries. Sounds familiar I know. Many of his appearances have been as late 2nd half sub; relations between him and the management are not too cordial so all in all his goal scoring achievements this season such as they are may not reflect what he can actually do in a better set up.
Me too. I've lost respect for him regarding his Wolves situation. Kenny Jackett who's as honest as they come (met him after preseason Shels game last Summer. Lovely chap) said the other day that Doyle had to stop moaning and knuckle down. I never thought he'd be accused of that but it just goes to show you can never underestimate the power of the professional footballer's ego. A very hard worker for Ireland but he could never score goals. He's sunk like a stone since. You'd never know though. Dunne worked out great so maybe Doyle would too?
