Is Martin O'Neill ready to offer Kevin Davies an escape route out of Bolton?. O'Neill is desperate to add to his firepower as Connor Wickham is the only fit, recognised striker in his squad for Sunday's FA Cup tie with Middlesbrough. And former Southampton and Blackburn forward Davies, who has also drawn attention from Wolves and Everton, could fit the bill. The 34-year-old is unhappy about his lack of first-team action at Bolton and would welcome a move before his contract expires in June. Davies is believed to be looking for an 18-month deal.

This might be a good short term option, until Whickham and Ji gain more experience, campbell gets fit and O'Neill has time to consider Bendtner or a longer term striker solution in the summer. Davies has lots of experience and most centre halves hate playing against him.

Would take him happily if cheap and on a decent wage. Real handful who could possibly bring the best out of Sess.

Anyone that was at the Swansea game will tell you that Whickham isn't ready for the big time just yet, he needs to learn how to put himself about, far too easily pushed off the ball for such a big lad.
Someone like Kevin Davies would bring him on and show him exactly what's required to make it in the PL.
Davies is at the end of his top flight career but would still have something to offer for us, in my opinion.

I reckon on a short term deal, the experience he would bring would be invaluable...he would help with Wickhams development and be an option for us till the end of the season..who knows..a coaching role as well.

Seems expectations are getting lowered somewhat...

This should have happened a few years back...it's to late now.

First of all I would like to point out that the report came from The Daily Mail, which is not exactly renowned for accurate journalism...
My second point would be that from the limited games that I have seen him play, he has always been a handful, and the type of big bustling centre forward which we have not had in our ranks for a while...What is worrying is that he hasn't been able to be a regular starter in Bolton's team of late, and there must be a reason for that...

Yip. This for me also..

I'd take him for the right price.

Holds the ball up well, is a pain in the ass to mark, and wins loads of free kicks around the box. On a short term deal to fill the gaps at minimal expense would be a better option than Bendtner.

Is also have him beat the **** out of Wickham in training to toughen the lad up.

I really dont see why we need another target man type player.

We need a poacher type, someone who is in the right place at the right time so the ball bounces of his head/knee/shin/arse and goes in.

If we can get him for buttons then I'd have him. I have always thought of him as somebody who can hold the ball up, taking the pressure off the midfield and we certainly don't have too many of them.

If MoN thinks he can do a job for us thats good enough for me

Interest mounts in Davies
But Bolton won't consider loaning striker

Sky Sports understands that a host of clubs have made enquiries for Bolton striker Kevin Davies.

The 34-year-old admitted earlier this month that he was facing an uncertain future.

Davies has slipped down the pecking order this season and is now spending much of his time on the bench, which has alerted other clubs to his possible availability.

And now Sky Sports understands that Sunderland, Wolves, West Brom are all monitoring his situation whilst Old Firm duo Celtic and Rangers are also keen.

But whilst Bolton would consider selling him this month, it is not believed that they would entertain a loan deal - which most of the clubs interested would seem to prefer.

Davies's current deal at the Reebok Stadium is due to expire at the end of the season.
