I am so sad but strangely comforted by this news. Kevin symbolised all that was best and much admired about our once terrific Suffolk club. His passing reminds us all how lucky we were to have watched those teams of old. He gave it everything, passion, strength, commitment, loyalty, kindness, humour and spat out blood sweat and tears. Pulling Hens teeth comes to mind! He read the game superbly, was a real tour de force. My goodness we could do with him now. As a youngish man, it was a thrill & joy to watch him and our amazing defence overpower the best in Britain & Europe. We sorely miss him.
In 68 years of watching City there are many players who caused us problems but very few who I knew would dominate us but were so good that I looked forward to watching them. Charlie Hurley used to crucify us at both ends of the pitch and Suarez was always majestic in scoring his inevitable hat-trick. The only other player I can put in that category was Kevin - an absolutely brilliant player who dominated every game I saw him play. I always had the impression that he loved the game so much that he would have played for nothing and despite his brilliance he was just a normal bloke who loved talking to the fans. My only regret is that when he came down from Carlisle he didn't stop 40 miles short and wear the yellow and green instead. Taken far too early - RIP.
Great post there 1950. This is when any rivalries are put to one side while we show our respect to one of the great players of our generation. Hated him when we had to face him, which says everything about his abilities. RIP Mr Beattie.
