Lovely picture of Yann on the Bournemouth website now, modelling his new club colours. It turns out that we had offered him a new two year deal some weeks ago, but he didn't accept. Once again reinforces the view that sympathy and hero worship of footballers should always be treated with a large pinch of salt.
If it was at reduced terms, as seems to be the case, then I can understand him turning it down. He has family to think about. Doesn't mean I'm not devastated that he's gone though.
Indeed. It's the Alnwick one that gets me actually. I really liked the solidity that he had given the defense for the first time for ages. Lucky Orient.
Not necessarily. I see the problem more as "too many first-choice goalies". Alnwick was brought in as back-up to Hamer for which he is clearly adequate. The problem may have arisen when he replaced Hamer for a spell and proved as good or better. Either he or Hamer might have thrown their toys out of the pram about his retaining the spot once Hamer was fit again. Neither was prepared to be no.2 so one had to go. If that scenario is correct, Thuram might have been signed because it had already been decided to let one of them go. The club is not committed to him next season, by when we hope Pope will be ready to be one of the top two here.
Maybe. Hamer has had dodgy spells and his mannerisms are irritating, but he has been pretty good over a long period for us. Some were even posting about him being "Player of the Year" earlier this season. Alnwick has only been good for a few matches. Lots of 'keepers can have purple patches, I was surprised to be reminded that Andy Petterson was once our Player of the Year. I only remember him as very average and his good form only lasted a season. Maybe CP, once forced into a corner, decided it was better to stick with the devil you know? Or maybe Alnwick started getting too big for his boots? Or maybe the terms of their contracts made it a lot more expensive to get rid of Hamer than Alnwick? All I was suggesting is that Thuram may have been the Band-Aid and not the boil. None of really know what goes on behind the scenes.
Before he suddenly left I posted that Alnwick was a real find, and the defense looked more confident with him there, that's how I saw it and that's why I'm hacked off.
Totally agree. My old mum used to say "you look like you found sixpence and lost a shilling". That sums us up at present. (I realise that would be a bit obscure for our younger posters).
Scratch, it woul probably be more apropriate to do it in Polish or Iranian (Farsi?). Still, in the spirit of our new international outlook, I'll say my bit.
What grounds do you have for stating he is Flemish? His surname is French and he went to a Roman Catholic University so I assumed he was a Walloon, but you could be right.
Fair enough, guv. Thanks. Though I guess he could actually be an Armenian with a phony past. A lot of these international financiers are. I have noticed that from spy films.
