The thing is if the rumours about the FA doing jack **** if Evra's accustion is proven baseless/untrue yet taking no action against him(to keep the peace between the clubs),it still leaves Saurez stigmatised as a racist and that will stick with him throughout the rest of his career and possibly his life. If Evra cant prove his accusation Saurez should request him to retract it and if he does'nt he should sue him(only if the FA dont punish him).
This whole issue could have been dealt with effectively if Evra had not gone public to Canal+. Whatever happens from here on in will probably prove to be unsatisfactory for all concerned.
That's it either way Evra should be spoken to about the correct way to go about lodging a complaint as going public first was always a bad idea.
I understand the argument that people will be even more wary of coming out and reporting racist abuse. But the fact is, had Evra made the allegation in private then things would be absolutely fine, and he wouldn't need to worry about repurcussions. I just can't help but shake off the feeling that if Evra actually had a case he wouldn't have gone public in the first place. IMO he was just wound up after the game and tried to make something up as an excuse for his antics. I think it says it all that Liverpool are fully behind Suarez and Ferguson was much more reluctant in backing Evra, and he's left Evra on his own to pursue these allegations, while the whole of Liverpool are backing Suarez in the case. That speaks volumes if you ask me, one player gets the reluctant support of his club but he's left to pursue the claims on his own, while the other is being backed unequivocally by everyone at the club. Obviously doesn't mean that Suarez isn't guilty and that Evra is lying, but how can you trust a character that his own club can't back 100% and help him with these allegations.
People will say 'why would Evra continue with his claim if he was lying?' but the fact is, if nothing can be proven (it looks that way) most of us Liverpool fans will think Evra is just a liar, but there will be a good percentage of other fans who'll believe Suarez is a racist. Unless it can be proven 100% that he didn't say anything, which I don't think it can, this will inevitably be the case. EDIT: Just seen that PMK made pretty much the same point above. Sorry about that.
There was no reason, IMO, for Evra to come out after the game and say anything publically anyway, unless he had an ulterior motive.
As you touched on earlier,he came off the pitch high on adrenalin and gave an interview to Canal+,he was hyped up from the first whistle.
Do you not think he would've mentioned it to the referee though in the middle of the game, if he had a genuine case!
Or that somebody else would have heard it or that there would be video evidence or one of the many microphones around the ground would of picked it up? Now any of the above may be true and they are keeping it up their sleeve to reveal at an opportune moment so we shall have to wait and see. In all honesty, if the roles were reversed I would keep hold of any evidence till saturday so it messes liverpool up on a matchday.
