The snide remarks relate to him supporting Suarez, if the ****s cared to study what happened they'd discover that Suarez was very dishonest in the immediate aftermath and at that point Dalglish had every right to support his player.

It’s taken too long. Now we can begin to lobby for him to be canonised!!

Saint Kenny has a nice ring to it...

    Long overdue recognition.

But to be honest what does it mean? the boss of network rail who oversaw an unprecedented amount of incompetence and failure gets rewarded with an honour. These gongs being given to bank chiefs who led their banks to bankruptcy and put lots of savers money at risk and others like civil servants who get the highest honour simply by being the occupants of certain jobs.

He has been and always be the King. A greater honour was the naming of a stand in his name. Being made a knight when non entities, cheats in suits are getting these is no big deal as these gongs have seriously been devalued.

I agree with Carl in terms of the honours system being devalued by shysters but our club has been overlooked so many times when it comes to football based knighthoods, the government of the day(Thatcher's crowd)made sure Bob never got one.
Geoff Hurst got one mainly for scoring a hat trick in the 66 WC Final and Trevor Brooking got one for who knows what, so looking at those two as an example Kenny definitely deserves his.
Another way of looking at it is, whenever in the future Kenny's knigthood is mentioned the Hillsborough dead will be remembered because the two are forever entwined.

The point is that this honour should have been given a long time ago. It would have had greater meaning to all: Kenny, his work colleagues, relatives of Hillsboro, and his work with them. Now it has a hint of reluctance about it. Like we’d better give him an honour before he is gone and then we’ll be criticised.

May be he should have contributed £50k to a certain political party funds and be guaranteed of being made a Lord?

Agreed, and your point about the political donation backs up my point as to how much influence a government has in an individual recieving a knighthood, the honours system needs a complete overhaul but politics will see it remain as it is.

Steve Rotheram led a 'campaign' in parliament for Kenny to be knighted six and a half years ago.

It's finally happened. Congratulations to the great man <applause>

imo this honour is not about a queen handing out a medal, it is meaningless medal due to what others have said.

however it is an opportunity to have the community who matters celebrate kenny dalglish and honour him while he is here.

as a man he strikes me as a guy who would never otherwise allow people to praise him.

I would rather he be honoured this way than only have people talk about his great deeds in his obituaries

he is 67.. he deserves to be honoured publically.

in ye olden days a man with a big red book used to allow people to honour people like this.... these days there's no real way to honour someone publically

    they cannot be awarded posthumously.

really was a bad thing that he wasn't recognised.

I think people should push whatever they personally feel about honours to one side - if only for a day and at least on this occasion - and celebrate that a very good man has been recognised for what he's done. He's very humble about it but also honoured to receive it. We should celebrate that with him.

Fully deserved honour for the great man.

I will reserve my ire about the honours system for another day.
