I think that was the first match you paid for in decimal money.
Cost me 15p the robbing bastards

My dad took me to that game.
We was winning when the fog came down
When it was re played we lost
Grrrrr
Ken knighton was my fav player while at city
Played for Preston as well had a tremendous left foot shot if memory serves me correctly
Oxford beat us 1-0 win a goal in the 89 min after we had battered them.
Ron Atkinson was playing for Oxford.
Big crowd, touching high 30,000 ( from memory)
Also from memory, we fell away a bit after the heroics at Bramall Lane.
Terry Neill got himself sent off at Luton, or was it QPR, anyhow it cost us the game and I think just about the only game we won after that was v Orient at home, 5-2. Not forgetting it was two points for a win in those days and a couple of defeats in a week left you trailing the front runners.
We finished a disappointing 5th, which was still our highest ever finish playing from Boothferry Park.
I doubt they looked bigger maybe the smoke got in your eyes...26,672 at the Oxford game. As you said went downhill from there. Ended up with a crowd of 11,301 for the last game at home to Norwich.
Neill was sent off earlier in the season at QPR. Considering where we were our support there was laughable. There was our usual minibus but owing to some non regulars turning up there was a row over seats and myself, Whiff, Tony E and Mike F went on train. A handful of others, including a couple of Matelots who had just returned from the Caribbean and kept the four of us supplied with rum, meant there were about 30 City fans there.
To show the oddness of our support a few weeks later there was a football special to Luton. Not sure, but I think that game was the first time we wore a black andvredvstriped away kit as Terry Neill thought it made the platters look bigger than the usual change strip.
(Attendance figures thanks to .Chris Elton and not my memory).
