i think he will get us to the premier league and then we will be in the top 10 after maybe a season but id oubt we will progress much further than that imo with ken bates in charge, i still think he is the right person to have here for the moment though
We could do a lot worse than Bates,at least we're financially stable at long last. Of course he has his faults but who hasn't? I rather have Bates in charge than another Ridsdale or those porn merchants at Upton Park. We're making steady progress without breaking the bank,& I for one am happy with that. It wasn't too long ago we were staring into the financial abyss,not knowing if we'd have a club left to support. He's doing a good job,let him get on with it.
Bates did nothing more than any business or person would have done, if they had taken the club over at the time he did, it was very basic business. What matters is what he has done since and I stand by what I say, he has done NOWT, except make us look like a club run by an outdated business man who still thinks it's the late 80's! GET BATES OUT..PROTEST..DON'T BUY TICKETS, DON'T BUY STRIPS ETC....
It's good to have a debate and also not such a bad thing that we all differ on certain topics. I don't think he will own us past 2014 He will sell up in theme grew seasons I'm sure of that. We will be an attractive purchase for someone bearing in mind out fans and opportunities you would have buy a club like ours... In someway bob he has not done allot...but all these big time super Leeds fans who were going to buy us when we were rock bottom.... Where did they go.... Where was there money...... All bullshit......... I would sooner have bates than no club....
There is an issue over just who did bid for the club and who has shown an interest since, I don't think this is the right forum for naming names, but let's just say it appears Bates got what he wanted by whatever means required.
bob, your saying that bates implemented basic business skills that any business man would've done but no other businessman was interested and he has not done anything to harm the club in a major way, maybe he does take advantage of the fans' loyalty a little bit but it is for the better of the club or so i believe, maybe im just a little bit naive or maybe your just a little bit harsh. truth is none of the fans really know him like spanish said so you cant really say what he is planning for the club

This is what Bates and his marketing buddies have you believe, but it is not the truth. There was stuff going on at Leeds, which I would suggest required proper legal challenges, but they didn't happen for a variety of reasons. Don't sum up Bates at Leeds by the fact he took power, he simply paid off as little as he could, making many local businesses bankrupt or out of business and got his accountants to fix things for other business reasons, no different from what I or any other business person would have done in the same situation. It is what he has done since then that matters and quite frankly it adds up to NOWT, except embarrass the club via his ramblings and nonsense business plans. There was other investors and they weren't local scrap merchants or two bit nobodies, they simply wouldn't not deal with Bates, as that stands until he dies or quits.

Have to agree totally... Bates got Leeds on the cheap, trampled over a lot of people and wrote off a ton of debt ruining or harming a lot of people. He applied cut throat business skills that I don't blame him for, it was a master stroke but then what? Then nothing, he continues to profit from the club refusing to re-invest what it is making, look at the Delph sale, we were already running at a profit so where did the Delph money go? Into Bates bank account that is where... Cup runs two seasons running, big home crowds, TV rights and replays against premier league clubs, Leeds Utd is making Bates a very rich man.
But he gave us back the television screen at ER and a couple of new bars for the members! Anything else?
i think you guys need to look at the bigger picture, we do not want to spend silly amounts of money for players that have alredy made there name, better up and coming players often, not always but often have not really been heard of, these are the players that we want and we can attract the occassional ex prem player every non and again (e.g. O'Brien who also had an offer from Cardiff) i cant think of someone better to run the club in the club's current position that is
When we do discover one we sell them or say we cannot afford to renew their contract due to high demands. Just offering players a wage that is fair would be a start, to think Bristol City could offer more for Kilkenny than we could is frightening. Personally I am not a Kilkenny fan but that isn't the point.
i laugh at certain leeds fans who try to convince themselves that papa smurf is doing a good job.....well i suppose he is in one way......for himself and not for the club.....he dont want premiership football at ER its to much money even with a £90 million windfall......he has it just right with premiership gate money and championship wages, he has his own manager in grayson who will do as pa pa says and keep leeds ticking over in the championship for years to come until he has got his empire built and then he will sell up and sail into the sunset....
Sailed into a few sunsets Dai ! . If it's one think I've learned , it's two things . Leeds have great & tolerant fans . They"ve traveled from Champions League all the way back to the Championship very well . I'm not sure there is another team that could tolerate Bates 's ways . I'd like to see Leeds back in the Premier , as a fan of football in general . P.S. Never was a Bates fan regarding Leeds , he wasn't much help from the beginning & he seems to have tapered off from there .
I dont care whether you laugh at me or not, im not trying to convince myself anything, i genuinely believe that bates is the right chairman to have at the club right now. He is trying to get us to premiership to say otherwise is just stupid, he is a genuine businessman trying to get his business to the top, not in the same way as leicester or someone like that but he is certainly aiming to get there. the evidence for that is staring at you
