Regardless of whether he's black or not, he's Nigerian, so that makes Barkley 25% more genetically predisposed to aggressiveness according to PLT.

Well, as I said when Barchullona first sent the thread off in this direction, there are some exceptions when it comes to me not really liking black music, including those old bluesmen. For me though, it went off in different directions, and one of those directions was the rock direction, giving rise to the likes of The Stones, Led Zep et al, and which I'm a fan of. The stuff that ended up becoming Motown and soul music isn't to my taste, and neither are any of the artists who feature on the list of winners here:

The things I mentioned, in reply to Leon T Trout, are merely the the mechanics and structure of modern music. Overlain are all the things which make someone like Slipknot sound completely different to, say, Kanye West, and within which the true differences can be found.

You seem to say you don't believe it is racist and then go on to say you don't beleve it isn't racist. What is there, in what he wrote, that you believe can be linked to racism? If you can see no link, unlike others, then why think it might be racist?

I never said I don't believe it is racist.

The only person that knows whether its racist is the person who wrote it. He said he didn't know Barkley's grandfather was Nigerian after the complaint was made to the Police. That may be true or it may be "he would say that, wouldn't he?"

MacKenzie is old enough to remember the racist abuse suffered by black footballers. Its not too big a leap from bananas on the pitch to the article "Here's why they go ape for Ross". Barkley getting punched for giving the come on to another bloke's woman (the reason for the article) doesn't immediately bring up the image of a gorilla's eyes. There's no evidence in the article the woman he allegedly took a shine to went ape for Ross either.

MacKenzie is intelligent enough to know his article would cause uproar. He's also intelligent enough to leave sufficient holes in the article to avoid prosecution.

He's a journalist; it's a part of what they do. You read far too much into it and it's that over-thinking that gives his brand of journalism the oxygen it needs to exist. Like I said, if you don't make a mental link between gorillas and black people then there isn't one.

My over-thinking about the article has little to do with racism and will remain private.

You asked me how people could link what he wrote to racism and I provided an answer. People do link apes to black footballers because of the abuse they suffered in the past. Something that MacKenzie is well aware of.

He was a black footballer, now he's a black ex-footballer.

He has two arms, a head, a body and two legs so yes, in a way, he does look like Cyrille Regis.

I've checked my grammar and the sentence clearly states what I intended. Barkley's colour is irrelevant to the meaning of the sentence, whilst Cyrille Regis' colour is.

We were talking about whether a remark about comparing an animal's eyes to those of what 99.9% of the population regards as a white footballer was racist. What has Cyrille Regis to do with it?

I answered a specific question by Fez about why many people believe associating black footballers with apes is racist. The reason has a lot to do with what happened to Cyrille Regis.

No, I asked how you could. I understand there are those who are determined to make a racist link.
