Three of the back five need replacing, and I'm afraid to say, Kelvin is one of those along with Fonte and Fox. Craig Gordon and Artur Boruc are currently free agents and we are missing a major trick if we don't snap one of them up pretty rapid, before someone else does. Kelv's been done on his near post more than once this season already and my 9 year old niece can kick the ball better than him. He has been brilliant for us over the past 3 years, but this is the prem and I hate to say it, I don't think he is good enough.
Lots of bad arguments for Kelv. He's soooo weak at kicking, scares me sometimes, and already we've conceded from his poor distribution. He gets done at his near post far far too often for a Premier League keeper. He often gets something on the ball, but always seems a little too far off, as was the case for a lot of Arsenals goals... Loyalty isn't prominent in football anymore, and we can't play him solely on the reason we've had him for a while. He looked very subject when claiming corners and crosses, and could have conceded a few more from that. And to anyone saying about team of the season, last year i don't think he deserved (opinion granted) but Adam Federici always struck me as a better keeper all round, and probably had a better season, the award i think should have been his. Bottom line, he is probably just good enough for now, but if Gazzaniga isn't ready next season, he needs to be replaced. I've said it before and i'll say it again, he's losing his main ability of shot stopping with age. And he isn't getting any younger..
I would personally drop Hooiveld. He's clearly in a poor run of form and he's going to be injured for the next couple of weeks anyway. Fonte was at his best when he had a good partnership with Jaidi, if he can gain a good one with Yoshida then I think he will replicate his past form. I think that Fonte would be more able to form a decent partnership than Hooiveld would with Yoshida, who I think needs to start to see what he's like and also we wouldn't have strengthened a very weak position to just add depth, he was obviously brought in to improve the starting 11.
To be honest with you JFB, Fonte was awesome in league one, possibly our best player, but a lot of the goals we have conceded this season have been his fault. A poor clearing header at Man City for their second goal, robbed on the halfway line at home to Wigan, ok, arguably should have been a free kick, Lost RVP for his third, just to name a few. His positioning against elite premier league strikers is at best questionable. Fox is pretty much the same. Positioning in this league is everything. Gervinho's first goal on Saturday, watch it and tell me where how far Fox was off him after he spun in behind, five yards at least. Championship players at best. We need quality proven premiership defenders with a bit of nous, which these two, along with Kelv simply havn't got.
Sorry mate. It wasn't Fox, but Yoshida against Gervinho and Arsenal.. take another look. Fonte has been a little suspect, but he was our best defender on Saturday. As for the positioning thing, we had a whole thread on that recently and it isn't as simple as that.
Do they now , you would of thought with suppoorters having such a high regard for our loyal servants of the City that they would be able to spell thir name , of course spelling for me is an issue as I post 50% of the on a iphone and can hardly see the screen so you wont find me pulling you up for it......................................
Mental comment of the day! You have just crossed the line on loyalty to something....well I don't even know! You would rather sacrifice the clubs prem status because Kelvin showed us loyalty....yeah he was loyal but I forgot he was settled down here on a contract paying him thousands a week....selfless man!
Boruc makes loads and loads of clangers , ask the Celtic fans , they love him but he is inreliable . Craig Gordon ? Possibly .
Simon peach and Alex crook passed a few comments on twitter tonight. Seems they believe there is something in it. However good/not good boruc is there is no way we would have a player at the club with such a risky drink and drugs past potentially upsetting the dressing room or corrupting any of our younger talents minds!
I did notice you came in for a bit of a slamming on a post you created earlier about talksport! Haha I have been getting a bit of stick regarding KD but it's a forum and they are made to argue and discuss opinions! You will never please everyone, don't stop posting!
I like being the panto villain bar some people let themselves down with stupid personal posts when they know nothing of me at all , oh no I wont stop posting and the funny thing is most of the koaners of my posts are straight on to my threads and posts so figure out exactly whats going on , I sling the rod in and they bite but that doe snot mean I do not mean what i write as I do , its just funny that these people seem to dislike me or whatever and yet can not help themselves to react to my posts , but to be honest it makes it a bit livelier .
I feel Kelvin is definitely not up to scratch at this level. I must say though if we drop Kelvin then Fox, Hoovield and Clyne have to be dropped as well. As a unit we have been a shambles defensively. It has been embarrassing at the best of times. It's a particualrly bad situation as we've scored goals against City, United and Arsenal which is a difficult task. So we are a decent enough side offensively at this level. But that isn't good enough to get points at this level if you're defenders are like bambi on ice and that's putting it mildly
