Any contract must be short term and include clauses for "games played or available to play". I wouldn't want us to sign him on big wages and he get's injured.

I can't see it being true though. I'm certain that, at the very least, Kelvin will get more time. Bringing in a free goalkeeper now would reek of QPR style panic. And equally importantly Gordon has played one game in the last 18 months so I doubt he could just jump in for next Saturday. No, it would be positively bizarre if a new keeper was signed now.

PS Andy Johnson out for most of the season. Ouch.

He saved quite a lot at Leeds! Respect your opinion but he's a top keeper. Not in the top 10 but we can't get them!

Three consecutive "team of the year" places... yeah he's ****. Not only are you wrong but you're being incredibly disrespectful.

Jesus people we are in the premier league, some of the fans need to wake up as much as the players did saturday.

It's ruthless and loyalty gets you relegated! I want to be able to stay watching my team play Aguero,Rooney etc!

Yes kelvin had a good year last year but at times there were question marks at the same time we were not playing the likes of the above names mentioned!

He is now getting shown up for what he is and that is an honest football league GK at the end of a good career!

I'm not trying to disrespect him at all but he has and will cost us goals and no player is bigger than the team, club or the fans!

He probably does need to be upgraded but for days now you've been ****ing droning on about how terrible he is, how he can't save anything, how he's one of the worst keepers in the world etc. If that's not overreacting and being disrespectful to a man who has done a whole lot more good than bad for this team, then I don't know what is.

So what do we do blood Gazza and destroy his confidence or sign a keeper who hasn't played for 18 months. Whatever you think KD is our no 1 and will be for the foreseeable.

I think I may just have to accept that I watch a different footy match to the KD fans, like I say no upset meant to KD fans or the man himself but we all share a common ground and that is to see Saints achieve!

We have worked as club very hard In the last 3 years and I know as a fan I feel it's been hard but very enjoyable to watch. The worries at the end of our last two seasons on whether we will or won't go up shredded the nerves to bits. I went to all the home games and done a vast majority of the away games and I really don't wanna see all that undone by unnecessary errors.

I am not naive enough to put this all on KD the defence was woeful Saturday too but I also think they lack confidence which may be partially helped by replacing KD!

You maybe right in saying he may remain number 1 until January or even this season but IF he does my honest opinion is we won't be playing arsenal at the emirates next season.

We are a good enough team, this is what frustrates me!

Again apologies if the way I have portrayed my opinions in an offence manner!

You are obviously very passionate about this. I too have been to every home game and a few away games (including Saturday). I share some of your concerns and have been concerned for a couple of seasons, however I am looking at the current situation and asking myself if I would play Gazza or not. I haven't seen him play. Dan makes a good point by asking if throwing Gazza in would destroy him; it may even be the making of him. I would not play Gordon this weekend if we signed him tomorrow. I would get him in training for a week/two and then assess him. If he stands up to it then great, sign him.

Would you play Gazza on Saturday?

    Thanks for the response.

I wish I had the answer to that...guess thats why I'm not sat in Adkins position.

Of course it would be a risk putting in a rookie and against a team which we have to feel 3 points is possible!

I will try and look at this another way, we have 2 goalkeepers that are in the squad currently, KD and Gazza, what of KD gets injured, he has been lucky to avoid any injuries in the last couple of seasons but if this was to happen we would have our hand forced into putting Gazza in.

My argument is any Prem team with two main goalies must have a reasonable amount of confidence either can perform.

I see Reading were forced into making that decision this weekend and yes McCarthy didn't play outstanding and made one or two errors but I thought he was ok. I'm hoping Gazza is more than ok!

It's a tough call. I think Davis will retain his position although if I was Nige I wouldn't be tempted to see how big my gonads are?

Lol. I like your honesty. A lot of noise about KD, and then at crunch time .... squeaky bum time! It is a very tough call. Nigel mentioned that there may be two keepers coming in half way through the transfer window, so maybe he was hoping to sign another more experienced one; we will never know.

It would be interesting to understand how the Reading fans view their keep making two mistakes, but being "ok".

We will just have to wait and see. My guess would be that Nigel will stick with Davis and then if we are still conceding and looing shaky, but with a few points on the board, he may give Gazza a run out in a less pressurised situation.

Let's wait and see, but keep up that passion as a Saints fan becasue whether we agree on topics or not, we are all in this together.

Pretty sure Gazza will start against the Owls if KD has a bad game Saturday and Gazza keeps a clean sheet.............

I'm actually a defender of SKD, but as far as excuses to keep him in the team, that is a pretty poor one! Forecast would be playing if that was the condition for getting in the first team. <laugh>

Me being 6ft4, if I laid on the goal line I'd be better then Forecast.

The errors people are accusing of are the same ones he has had all his career like lack of command, poor passing but now he has also added just parrying the ball which then puts our defense back under pressure. Truthfully, whose arse does not pucker up when the ball goes anywhere near him? I am in favour of giving Gazza a tryout, he will make mistakes like Butland does, but hopefully he will learn and he has much more presence about him.

I have always though Davis was marginal at best in Premier League. I was hoping Saints would strengthen the back four enough to where they could get by with SKD but doesn't look that happened.

I think I would rather see Saints get relegated with Davis than stay up without ever having given Davis a crack at this level. The club owes him that much.

Out of the 14 goals we have conceded I think you would be harsh to put the sole blame on Kelvin for more than a couple.
He is a very competent keeper, but that is all. If we defend competently in front of him then he has proven he can keep the ball out, but don't expect him to make successions of world class stops. We can do better that's for sure and the likes of Vorm & Krul show that keepers are out there for good money.

We took the route of bringing in someone for next season. I don't think it was a terrible call. Only time will tell
