I think he refers to our net spend over the last 5 years , to be fair figures can be massaged and as we have not been in the top league for a while its out of sync , the 20 year one though gives a bit of a better picture .
Afternoon Gomarching! Don't think we were at all conservative this window. Personally I was amazed by how much we spent and by the quality.
They were already in the poop by that point. Hence why they sold players, to try and pay off the debt that they had racked up. They may have made a 'profit' on those players but it did not cover the other expenses plus excessive transfers of the years prior.
So on the basis of one season's worth of spending we are the 10th highest spender of the Premier League for the last 5 years. Most of those teams have had 5 years to compete with that spending.
As a paying customer I would expect nothing less , after all we are told this is now entertainment and not a sport , business not a part of a social history of our working classes , yes of course , they have to keep the punters happy or they shall not buy their Chinese made replica shirt again or worse go to another rival........................

Teams that have tried "buying" points in the past have come to a sticky end. We have to earn our points honestly otherwise it's not worth trying.
Shaw will play in the cup game, as will Gazzaniga. Neither is far off displacing their respective senior counterpart, so a good performance could swing it. I'd rather we used Shaw than bringing in a free agent. Wait until January if it's still a problem.
