I am going to be contrary to opinion here. I never have been a fan of Keds as a striker, I will rephrase that as a 'striker' that scores goals. However, I hasten to add on the balance of the entire game last night, I felt Keds did actually give us much more strength up front.
We were never going to break Exeter down with fancy football, they were faster and much better at it than us. Our passing was superb at times in the first half but it is all to no avail if the ball is pinging itself around the pitch with no end result.
What is it we have learned about possession, it is not how much you keep the ball, it is who takes their chances. Look at the first half, how many shots did Exeter have on goal? I have not seen any stats but probably one, the free kick they scored. There lays the problem and I have thought this for many games, it was so predictable last night when we hammered our free kick yet again into the wall.
Strangely and for the first time I felt watching Keds last night reminded me of Akinfenwa, I said that in my match report. Who is to blame for that Keds or our set up?
Bayo had Cody, who has Keds got of that same mould, I am sure we all remember Tomlin. Ah! Birchall?
If Keds is not the mould for the set up then fair enough but lets not blame the player for it, nor blame him for the tactics if you do not have the supporting player in the role (see paragraph above).
I have never stuck up for Keds before but in my opinion he was not to blame.
