PTC well first of all we're here to debate not to PM someone every time you disagree about something. I've not made you look stupid, if you've done that yourself that's your problem. JWM thinks it's anal to pull you up on it and that's his point of view.

Anyway, to answer your points, psycho is a colloquialism for a hard nut in common usage and I believe stems from Psychopath, which is an inaccurate colloquial term used to describe all manner of brutality when it really means someone with a brain dysfunction who can't relate to others' feelings, but those people are generally manipulators and Keane is certainly not one of them.

He doesn't have any mental health issues on the surface and certainly is neither psychotic nor a psychopath, I can promise you that as someone who knows the topic inside out.

It wouldn't surprise or offend me for someone to call him psycho because we all take that to mean a hard nut, but I have never heard fans on the terraces chant 'psychotic! anymore than I have 'schizophrenic!'. When people say 'genuinely depressed' to mean a little bit sad that's stupid too. But if you sat down with them they wouldn't say 'oh I'm showing very mild signs of depression on the spectrum'. That's bollocks mate <ok>

If you ask me Fergie has made himself look like a right pillock by laying into his top players and Keane's assessment is the most accurate.

I agree with you about Fergie but the rest I just think you took something I said a little too OTT and that's that (and I'm pretty PC), like I said if you were offended by something I would prefer you to PM and not patronise me on here and then we wouldn't have to suffer drivel from the both of us.

We can debate the Keane point and as it is I think you're right about him being right in this circumstance but reading into what Ferguson has said he does seem to be a bit of a headcase (am I okay to call him that?). Anyway it wasn't really a debate it was you being offended by something I said, something I didn't think was offensive which you then went on to criticise me in a patronising manner. If you were really that offended by it in future please tell me by PM, don't patronise me on here and it could have all been sorted out without getting heated.

Leaving aside the rights and wrongs, PTC didn't mean any real harm, and with you being a former mod Hampy, I'm surprised that you wanted to throw more petrol on the flames. I plead guilty to winding PTC and Spanish up from time to time but I mean no real harm by it and they give me it back in spades. At the end of the day this is a football forum where casual off the cuff statements are made day in day out. Lets all just take a chill pill before we start killing each other when Mick ups and leaves!

Would calling Keane a spasticated mong upset the liberal PC brigade?

Fergie's just bored that he's no longer in the limelight. He doesn't get the chance to play his mind games with opposing managers through the media anymore and so has written a controversial book to feed his appetite for mayhem. He's always said things for the impact factor and sometimes he opens his mouth without thinking, this is just another instance.

ptc.....if you wanted the conversation to go to PM maybe you should've sent one to Hampy instead of continuing it on the board, just a thought.

If you found it patronising or are embarrassed you should think more carefully before reaffirming your point. I don't think it's got heated or will get heated. Some things I feel strongly about and ignorance about mental health is one of them. I actually spent two hours last night, after these posts I might add, talking to a friend whose dad had shot himself through the mouth with a rifle in her bedroom a few years ago and it's still affecting her. She blames herself for not picking up on the signs of his problems, so I do think it's pretty important to lay out the facts when someone paints a perfectly healthy man with a brush like that and is adamant post after post he is psychotic, which is frankly ridiculous. <ok>

And by the way PTC, to put it into perspective, I do know you don't mean any harm and it's far from the most offensive thing in the world, but I feel too strongly to have ignored it.

Now, i'm not one usually for sticking up for people on here, as i believe you are all big and ugly enough to fight your own battles, but seriously...how can the using the term "psychotic" be really that offensive (and so what if it is offensive to you)?? As PTC said, it is a term used generally in all walks of everyday life (well, the word psycho is). Now, wether i agree or disagree with his description of Keane being psychotic, is not hear nor there (i actually find him quite refreshing). Are we going to ban using words and terminology which are not 100% accurate descriptions simply because it might offend a person?? I will continue to use the term "mental" and "psycho/tic" to describe someone who looks deranged, angry, and is possibly acting in a manner akin to someone losing the plot. I will continue to call an African/West Indian black or coloured, even though they are clearly not black or coloured.
In fact, i'm offended that others take offence to people using the word psychotic incorrectly!

Well stretchy why not pile on the ignorance?

Psycho doesn't come from psychosis it stems from psychopath. Coloured is an incredibly offensive term. So, if you don't give a ****, you should really think a bit harder about why other people do.

Stretchy the problem we have today is that there are far too many people in our society that take delight in being offended on other people's behalf! There are sadly a great number of people who make an awful lot of money out of being offended on other people's behalf! I think George Orwell got it spot on when he wrote 1984! Ah happy days studying that book for my O Level English exam!

Well I apologise if I caused offence it was not intended and I'd hope you could see this, it was a fairly flippant remark that I geuss if taken in its literal sense could be offensive. Perhaps next time you feel someone is ignorant to a situation they may be more understanding of your offence if you explained why without being patronising. Lets please just draw a line under it. <thumbs up>
