This is what happens when you think short-term. In trying to minimise the short-term losses Roland has ensured that Grant and others are worth only a risible development fee at the end of the season. We know that Roland will bite the hand off anyone who makes a solid bid for any out-of-contract players. It's what he does, feck the consequences. It's why we needed a takeover by January.
The take-over (if there is one at all) will now be in May or June I think. Roland will know by then what league Charlton will be playing in next season, and the incoming owners will have a squad of about 8 players.
I don't have a problem selling Grant if the cash goes on an immediate replacement - highly unlikely given the owner. With Taylor now suspended for three games, this is the wrong time.
No probably about it. The way he is winding up Charlton fans through Lie(van) De Turck is typically deplorable. The price is never revealed, so we have to conclude it just varies depending on who RD is talking to, and any number of other factors like what mood he is in, whether we won at the weekend... He'll ramp it up by at least £20 million if Lee Bowyer gets us promoted. By the summer we'll only have a five-a-side squad - At least £10m will need to be spent to build a competitive Championship squad, and about £5m just to go for another League One promotion push next season. Another summer of free transfers, kids and crocked journeymen won't cut it, even if LB manages to get a few decent loan players in as well. Still, I'm not expecting a Sale now until this season is over, and even then it may well not happen. Even though I'm not Bowyer's greatest fan he deserves better than to be mugged off yet again by RD, who is now running CAFC as if it was a local county league Club.
The Sunderland youngster is the same age(ish), scored one more goal than Karlan, contract runs out in the summer like Karlan …. talk of Wet Spam buying him for £4m and loaning him straight back to Sunderland!
But Maja is a good player. Grant is a hack footballer IMO - ok for penalties & tap ins (a lot of which he still misses). Basically it's £2,000,000 because he can run fast. Crazy.
Any manager that has taken over under Dushitelet has known the score, no sympathy for any of them. By all accounts Bowyer was seen out drinking with squirrel face and others whilst she was polluting the gaff.
You would have to assume that none of any fee received would be re-invested in the team. It hasn't been before, so I hope we don't get a solid offer for him, because if we do it will be accepted, and we'll be left with only one striker, and he's got a poor disciplinary record.
The £2m () would be paid in instalments anyway...and would enter Duchatelet's bank account in the same way. Grant would not be replaced. Can Duchatelet sabotage what is beginning to look like a credible promotion bid?
Should Bowyer have turned down the job? I will tell Lee that you have no sympathy for him, he will be heartbroken, he is a very sensitive soul is our Lee
I hadn't heard that before. As long as Bowyer is winning he's OK. When/if the wheels come off our promotion campaign I won't lose any sleep over his departure. Hope RD doesn't persuade Johnnie Jackson to step in next. I do like Jacko, and he does deserve better than to be Duchatelet's next patsy.
