Then that is probably what he got the second yellow for - the referee will have seen the throw as gamesmanship, something he had booked him for less than 60 seconds previously. Unfortunately, events are down to the interpretation of those with the authority, and while those with the authority don't carry any of the responsibility and don't stand accountable for their decisions, terrible refereeing will continue.
But the throw was, if anything, speeding the game up rather than slowing it down! You've second point is sadly very true. This should change as, apparently, they are now professionals. What other professionals in any walk of life are not accountable for their mistakes?
The FA and the Football League constantly protect them for their mistakes, and then put rules in and enforce them that require players to respect the referees decisions. All the authority, none of the responsibility. There should be punishment for poor performances, to a more strict and significant level than the pretty relaxed system in place. Referees should also have to make a statement on key decisions after every game. I'd be surprised if truly awful refereeing survived longer than half a system if refs were made accountable for their decisions - complacency due to not being required to referee to any preset standard is the problem with refereeing.
mmmm, he threw the ball away from what? The goal...........towards the halfway line.............which is where the spot kick is taken. He threw it quickly. how was that time wasting?
I seem to remember Fryatt getting sent off for us against Norwich last season when he tried to get the ball back off the keeper when he scored, there were 3 or 4 red shirts round Kasper trying to snatch it off him when they scored their dodgy pen on saturday, double standard refs
When Schmeichel turns around and sees his red card he goes over to the ref and you can see that the ball is ALREADY on the spot ready to be kicked off. joke of a decision.
I think the point is, we can all go on about technicalities but if we're all honest we know that the referee made an unreasonable decision. Whether he considered Schmeichel 'unsportsmanlike', or 'timewasting', no Forest fan would have complained if he hadn't have been sent off. As it happens, his decision had a major impact on the result - and was harsh at best, at worst a blatant attempt to appease the home team. My view is that Schmeichel threw the ball away in frustration, without causing a disadvantage to Forest. So, in this case, the referee IS a ****er. But I'm over it, I swear
1) That happens in almost every game, every weekend. When a goal goes in, a defender of goalie kicks it away in disgust, yet seldom do you see them getting even a telling off. Besides, once that ball goes dead (i.e. after hitting the back of the net), the ball is OURS not THEIRS, so by rights we should be able to do what we like with it, as long as we don't actually puncture the ****ing thing. 2) Good point, no idea, guess that is the problem with 'ref's interpretation'. 3) The commentator is a tit, I'm amazed that that comment was not edited before it was screened. Gives the wrong impression to those who weren't at the game.
I'm i the only one that thought there second was a foul on our defender?! he went through the back of him.......truely a shocking day all round for the officials. I wasnt impressed with Forest, looked like us against Bristol!!!
