Guys, forget what I said about John Hughs on another thread. Can we keep Eric as a pet, instead? Apt name though.

Just looked after that win yesterday at Boro.

The cash out on that 30 quid bet at 8/1 before the start of the season on City to go up has gone up to £90 this morning.

There's obviously some maths behind it, but odd that it drops 16 quid after a defeat then bounces back 23 after a win.

Not complain on your behalf. Just odd in my mind.

You're right about the maths being involved remote, but they must look at the results of other likely teams for promotion at the same time.

If other top half teams get beat, then the cash out on City going up will increase.

So your cash out could go up even if we don't play, but teams around us do and drop points.
Makes sense I suppose. Had only looked at it from the perspective of OUR results.
Probably just as well I'm not a bookie!

Precisely - if other top teams lose games we are more likely to go up hence the cash out value on the bet would increase.

The same has happened on an £8 punt I've got on Newport finishing in the top 7 in League 2 (hence playoff spot).

The cash out was £29.50 a couple of games back. The two games since they demolished Forest Green 4-0 away from home, County have lost one and drawn the other, but the cash out value this morning is still £29.72 because the teams around them, Exeter, Accrington and Wycombe have all lost as well.

Just to update before tonight's game - after the draw with Millwall on Saturday, the cash out has now dropped from £90 to £77.15.

Let's see what they think tomorrow morning.

In line with our earlier musings on the maths behind this, thought you might have fared better given wolves lost.

After last night, up from £77.15 to £83.08. It could easily change again after Villa go to Preston tonight.

Wonder where it'll be after the Wurzel game on Saturday. <yikes>

Cash out now back down to £67.50 after the Wurzel loss and didn't change after the Blades won last night to go top.

So it's £67.50 going into today's game against Brentford, let's see where it is in the morning. Could change again with the Leeds/Middlesbrough result on Sunday.

<laugh><laugh>...............I was waiting for today's Leeds/Boro result to affect it.

Went up to £77.15 after yesterday's win and didn't change at all after Leed's win this afternoon.

What's interesting is that I've also got £30 @ 3/1 on us just finishing top 6. That's gone up from £64.50 before yesterday to £79.42 this afternoon - that's really significant.

That's a massive change Sparks over 20% increase from 1 game. Bookies are no mugs.

Is it because we are still in the hunt despite the injury list we have? I do know that the big bookies have employed 'spies' at all major grounds watching every little move that's made and every little argument or any other snippet that feeds back to analysts at base.

It's as much to do with the results of other potential top 6 candidates as our own result. We got our 3 points but most of the others didn't.

Derby, Ipswich, Norwich, Sheff Wed and Bristol City all drew effectively dropping 2 points apiece, whilst Middlesbrough and Forest both lost and got nothing.
