    Back to the OP.

I too have a problem with most football boards.

It is really disappointing that there is so much bile in the world and doubly disappointing that it ends up on a forum that is about something that gives so much pleasure to millions.

Time after time threads break down into foul mouthed slanging matches that demean the posters. The level of abuse can be vile as we all know.

What is particularly sad is that when this happens it in no way represents what happens in the 'off forum' world - at least it doesn't represent what happens in my footballing world. Maybe in the text speaking, potty mouthed fans world people from opposing clubs really do hate each other.

I have friends who support MUFC, Spuds (Brother too), Gooners (Son too), QPR, LFC and the Potters. We all get along fine, we watch matches together, engage in the usual mild banter but we don't hate each other, we don't call each other foul names. We just enjoy football together.

Last year I went to the Etihad with two City fans (we got beat 2-1 after we took the lead if you remember) and I sat with them in their home end. I didn't make a secret of it and had some decent conversation with several of them and endured my ribbing at the beating like a man. All friendly stuff and nothing like some of the nastiness that you experience on football forums.

Sad situation really but one of the downfalls of our wonderful worldwide web is that it allows everyone access to type more or less what they like when in fact their mentality suggests they should be muzzled. Cest la vie.

That's how it should be. I wonder if some of these "people" would say these things face to face? Doubt it somehow.
Most posters on this board are fine. Just a few that go over the top occasionally.
What I do know though, is that it's best to stick to this board. Some of the others are full of the "people we're talkng about and do not deserve to be recognised with a response.

Similar to the views already expressed. I'm happy for a bit of banter and focus from other clubs (let's face it, we have warranted it a bit recently) but the level of abuse and inane dribble banded around is pathetic. I've recently returned from a break on here, hoping that some of the muppets would have left. Although they haven't, it's also good to see that some of the original quality posters have stuck it out (some originals from the BBC 606 site).

I just have to remember that there are still some normal people out there (from all clubs) and that football conversation and debate is possible, it's just a matter of ignoring those pathetic ones. I've got enough to worry about at Chelsea, without being concerned about the idiots on the boards

I always talk about blubb....errr football, and also the wider context of how it sits in our society. The two can not be separated in my mind. How people/players behavior at football matches, online, in a supermarket, at a school or anywhere public is apart of all of us and how we are.

People seem to believe that they can behave in a certain place or forum differently, due to 'unwritten rules'. You represent yourself, those who are dependant on you and those who associate with you all the time. We make the rules constantly ourselves every passing moment. We are the creators, custodians and representatives of those laws everywhere we have a presence and are directly responsible for how they impinge and effect others. Some though would abrogate their responsibilities by blaming outside influences like alcohol, other people's opinions etc. These are stupid, lazy, or uncaring people who ultimately use society for self benefit and have no commitment to a common Humanity. Oh they will go along with it so long as it suits them.

Our civilisation can be described very simply. There are givers and takers. That is it in a nutshell. Givers sometimes take but it is outweighed by the giving. Takers sometimes give and kid themselves this makes them Human.

So we interact on a football forum and what we see is giving exchanging with taking and the crap is when the takers interact with other takers. Usually takers know what they are and are quite proud of it. This is not a condemnation, just an observation, I'll leave individuals to applied any labels.

I write this to add perspective to how people communicate or more usually tell each other what they think and don't listen, deride or ignore any comment on their musing. A football forum becomes an arena of insult where anonymous gladiators brag how big their bollocks are while at the same time alluding to how intelligent they are (backed up by others of a similar team allegiance who also are supremely brainy and testically enlarged) while having such large bollocks and desperately trying to shame those who disagree by claiming they are stupid and have no bollocks at all.

Some people take this place too seriously, If you don't like someone tell them so or ignore them. If you dont like a thread don't post on it.

There are loads of good boards on these forums and most fans will welcome you if you want to talk footy.
