I still actually think it was silly for them to have sacked Ollie when he was gradually improving things and we were craving stability. Of course, it has worked out but I think the decision itself was just more randomised, knee jerk thinking from Tony and co. It's just that this time it's worked out and we're in better shape than we've been for a while. I'm sorry but I can't believe that this wasn't unlike any other random big decision that's been made since Tony bought in. It had to eventually work out with someone. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with things. Very much so. And I am glad that Tony has taken the back seat. I hope those with the executive powers grow more and more sensible.
Hard to know what his coaching sessions are like, although I think one of Clive's articles suggested that they involve a lot of repetitive drills. His recent success (after the disastrous initial experiment with possession-based, play out from the back, 'proper' football) seems to have been based on finding a way of playing that best suits the group of players available to him and sticking to it - allied with consistency of player selection. Hopefully, the reserve and youth teams are all playing the same way and that anyone that comes into the side will therefore know exactly what is expected of them. Another big factor, though, is that the players seem to have bought into what he is doing and are happy with what's being asked of them. Squad camaraderie and a will to win can sometimes take you places that coaching alone can't.
It’s a brilliant story as I see the team improving every match I watch albeit online ... my own confidence is the team is better every match SM has to be given full credit for coaching in the confidence .. we seriously do not need anyone at the moment this is a natural growth of a team
I was disappointed in the way they let him go - and at the time I never thought he should have been replaced by Mclaren. I’m still not happy with the way he was replaced, but I was very happy with the result and performance against Boro, the first game I’ve seen live in years.
Sorry but in no way were we improving under olly . We were going backwards if anything and it had to be addressed. Attendances were falling and season ticket holders no renewing due to the football we were playing . His formations didn’t work and his constant personnel changes were random at best . You never knew who would be playing before 2pm on a sat . He never seemed to learn from mistakes and would not change until too late . I for one did not renew my season ticket until I knew he had gone . McLaren has taken a weaker squad forwards . We are a much more settled and better team than 12 months ago . Long may it continue.
