Leeds-18

You've made some good points on our board from time to time and I enjoy the banter and indeed even the wind-ups when they are delivered with some wit. Unfortunately, if you are triumphalising a profound lack of respect to the passing of a footballing great, Sir Matt Busby, then I'm both very disappointed but also feel that you diminish and demean yourself. Footballing rivalry should be tempered by respect - as has been admirably shown by the recent sad loss of Gary Speed and the reaction of the footballing community to that.

I've no time for those who would make fun of tragic events such as the Munich air-crash, Ibrox disaster, Heysel, Hillsborugh, Bradford or Istanbul. People should not lose their lives at a football match. Similarly we should all be big enough men to recognise the true greats of the game - those original thinkers that brought something different and left an indelible mark on the sport that we love - Busby, Shankly, Revie, Clough, Jock Stein and their ilk - even if their attachment was to teams (and the supporters of those teams) that we genuinely dislike.

What would the Leeds fans say If I went on their board spouting **** about Istanbul?

Double standards.

But this is what the issue was, the FA did nothing for the Don, which is what the booing was for.

Didn't Revie die in the summer though? (I.e. no game to hold minutes silences at) I know no FA official attended his Funeral but thats nothing to get a lot of Leeds fans pissed off enough to do something as disgusting as booing a minutes silence.

You don't boo during a minutes silence no matter who it is. Voice your opinions after otherwise you just end up being hated.

Like I said, if you were holding a minutes silence for Gary Speed or the Istanbul tragedy and away fans booed then you'd go ballistic. Leeds fans think the world revolves around them and that is why they are hated and for no other reason.

In 1977, while still under contract to the English FA, he quit as England's manager to become coach to the United Arab Emirates. This was the first time a manager of England had resigned from the position. The circumstances of Revie's departure immediately provoked controversy. Revie snubbed the FA by selling news of his resignation to the Daily Mail, where the story broke before the FA had received his letter of resignation. Some football supporters were incensed at reports of Revie's lucrative contract with the UAE team (£340,000 for four years), and accused him of acting selfishly and disloyally. The FA suspended Revie from football for 10 years on a charge of bringing the game into disrepute. Revie contested his suspension in a lawsuit against the FA, and the court overturned the suspension.[8] After leaving the UAE coaching role in 1980 he took over management of Al-Nasr, followed in 1984 by the Egyptian club Al-Ahly of Cairo. Revie then retired to Scotland where he and his wife enjoyed playing golf and being with family members.

That hardly screams of being respectful to the F.A in the first place does it? Respect is a two-way street and by that I can say that he hadn't earnt it.

and i'm not saying that two wrong make a right either.

Andy king is indeed the biggest nob head ever to post on any footy forum ....before the season even kicked off the nob was telling everyone that LcFc had bought the title and where certain to walk away with the league , he said Sven was miles better then Nigel Pearson , that he was pleased to see the back of NP , though now he claims NP is the greatest manager ever.. Every single time he makes a post he ends up looking dumber and dumber. IF I was a Leicester city fan I would want him banned off the Leicester forums . Is there any site you haven't made yourself look a twat on AKCJ ?

Ps...the nob also said Nigel Pearson has got Hull City playing hoof ball as that's NP's style .. Now he says NP has got LcFc playing slick passing football because that's NP's style...there's no escape AKCJ... Your famous on not606 for talking out of your arse

Would depend upon the validity of your argument. Since 'spouting ****' suggests it would be a bad argument, I imagine you'd get shot down. This isn't the Man U board either, is it?

He died in May and should therefore have had a minutes' silence at the first game of the season, if you believe like the FA apparently do that everyone should have to remember other teams' managers.

Sometimes you have to do something unpopular to prove a point.

If the minutes' silence were foisted upon other fans for whom those people's deaths had no relevance, I wouldn't be that fussed how they reacted. That's their issue, as the Revie/Busby one was ours.

The FA were planning to oust him in a pretty disrespectful way and he left before the had the chance to. It's covered in several books about his life. He did nothing to earn disrespect from the FA and certainly should have been graced with their presence at his funeral and honoured with a minutes' silence if Busby got one and they want to apply standards consistently.

FosseFilberto, I have no problem in saying Matt Busby was one of the greats and a football legend. All I have a problem with is the FA's inconsistent and prejudiced stance towards Don Revie and Leeds and I maintain that I'm proud that Leeds fans fought our corner on that day to show we're not inferior.

Nice tactic mentioning this totally out of context BTW Crown Jewels. You got slaughtered in the argument before and this was a great diversion tactic. <laugh>

The context now explained does make a difference - would still have preferred it if the Leeds fans had managed to convey their anger in a different way .. but at least I can now understand the rationale.
