Exactly my thoughts whilst reading through this. Not so much west ham because their finanaces are much better than they are made out to be, but if leicester fail to get promotion, i fear theyll do a southampton/pompey and be in financial ruin. I am far happier being us than them. They are making a squad, we are building a squad!!
West Ham interests me. After they were relegated there was a lot of speculation about their finances and if they would face admin, but they've thrown more money at their squad. It doesn't quite add up for me.
1. What Leicester are doing is crazy. Nobody needs to spend that much to be successful in this league. As someone else mentioned, they are being so brash to enhance their brand rather than people bashing their heads together to achieve the best value for money as is happening here. Nicola is running Saints as a business and is striving to be successful, but also achieve value for money as we are a football club, not a branding exercise. Their owners would probably call them King Power Leicester City FC if they could. They also needed more signings han we did with quite a few losses/loans going back. our squad is stable and only needed a few improvements. None of them were desperate enough to need to go out panic-buying. 2. Don't think so. Markus wasn't well from the start and NC was the brains throughout.
1st-We have a completely different plan to get into the premier league than Leicester have, ours consists of a 5 year plan to get into the premier league this plan has been put in place by our Executive Chairman,Nicola Cortese.Cortese wants the club to have a sustainable ,self-suficient future in the similar mould to Arsenal's plan.2nd-Why should we spend our money on overpriced championship players?3-The finances haven't changed,Cortese has reiterated this in a interview and even if the Liebherr family weren't interested anymore he knows plenty of other Billionaires who would be willing to buy the club and commit to the club's vision.Dont' Worry.Cortese is the BOSS.
Firstly our finances are sound.......when Marcus took over the club he made it abundantly clear of his financial intentions. Whether it be spending money on the club, players or superstructure. (Academy) He made it clear that funds would be put aside and used as necessary. On Marcus's demise RIP...Cortese made it clear that the structure was in place to carry on in Marcus's name and that the family supported that. There have been several statements to that effect. Cortese also made it clear even before Marcus's demise the club had to live within it's own means and basically once the target had been reached the club would have to do just that. (Target = Premiership was my understanding) Now comes the fans version.......because Marcus was a millionaire they expected a Leicester like purchasing spree, which to a point they kind of got, under the early day's of Pardew. After all how many clubs have spent £3/4 million to get out of Div one? Now we have reached stage 2, the championship. A lot of fans thought we would do a Leicester. Simply because we have a rich owner (or his next of kin) and buy a team, again simply because we appear to have the money to do so. This is just not being realistic at this moment because if we have invested right in the beginning we already have the mainstay of the side to get us promoted. We have brought in a few players to support what we have. They may not be household names but is there any doubt as to their quality in the short while they have been here? As to our main strike force........Why would we go for someone like Maynard and spend probably most of our purchasing budget on one player? It seems we actually put in an offer of about £3.5 million (or were prepared to) which was rejected. So it would seem that we are prepared to spend if it is felt necessary. We obviously do not know how some of the team will perform at this level so there will be a contingency plan to replace them as necessary at that time whether it be loans or January replacements. I think this should answer your questions adequately. The statements made throughout the tenure of our CEO has been clear, concise and instructional. You need to have more faith in him and our manager.........
Sorry guys and gals something keeps happening when I'm on me laptop.........am not used to them and me cursor goes into the wrong box........ My apologies to the author of the thread.
Leicester are spending big so they can compete with us in the Championship. They are playing catch up. We not only have a strong squad, we have a team. They don't.
