I am not having a go at him. But now you have raised the subject. 1. He chose his proffesion. 2. He will be on probably more a week than i get in a year. If he is on Apprentice wages of about £200 to £300 a week then yes he can learn his trade. If he is on £15000 a week or more then i expect goals or plenty of assists from him Sorry but i am 56 and the wages these players are on really winds me up. I was feeling ok untill you said i was having a go at him lol which was not my intention. Colbeck outstanding Whickam poor. I know it was only a friendly and at Burnley. Some players tried (not many) the rest went through the motions
I can't see why Brown gets such a hard ride - fair enough he picks up a knock here and there, I could name many that do. To have a long established career at Manchester United you've got to have something about you. You use the word 'mediocre' Jersey, I'd love to see the look on Ferguson's face if you told him that .... pretty sure he'd disagree (to put it mildly). So do I, I think Brown's been giving a very hard ride from certain sections and I reckon he's going to be one of the steals of the season.
I do hope I'm wrong, but imo we should be looking at younger players, or players who have been good in the past season.
Brown is an excelent defender, better than anything we have anyway and IMHO better than O`Shea buy a country mile. Brown is also 31, of course defenders are going to get knocks, they go in for tackles, and Brown does go in for tackles and makes most, but he will still get knocks. Frazier was young when we bought him, he is still young, but he has already come back once and got another injury (may be the same one not sure) what if he comes back again, and gets another, thats injury prone to some on here, so lets just sell him then. to say Brown is our worst signing though is silly, all of them are equal until we see them play preperly, and for a period of time, the most inexperiened is Won, doesnt mean he is the worst though, he could be great. If you asked me which one would be a flop though, i would have to say probably Gardner, just cant see what all the fuss is with him tbh, but hope i am proved wrong and he knocks in another 10-15 goals next season, just cant see it myself.
Half the reason we struggled in parts last season was because of the complete lack of experienced heads in our team. It's all well and good having a team full of exuberant yougun's flying about the pitch but somewhere, someone needs to have that calm head and settle things down. I think we suffered unneccessarily last season by lacking in this department. This is where I believe Bruce has worked very well in the transfer market so far by bringing in a handful of players who've been there, seen it, done it at the highest levels in the cases of Brown and O'Shea. This can only be a good thing imo and help bring the youngsters on faster than they otherwise would.
Surely the opportunity of playing regularly (or reasonably regularly) for us rather than simply warming the bench for Liverpool was one of the reasons he came - he ain`t gonna learn more from SB about how to play up front than he would have learny from King Kenny! He must feel ready to play - we must want him to play but we have got to give him a chance or two to settle in.
human nature mate, differenced of opinions, that's all it is. some like him, personally, i think he's ****e, but hey ho, lets hope he does a job if given the chance..........
Aye, difference of opinions is always to be expected. He's not ****e like but we'll agree to disagree
We are NOT good enough to play silly games in selecting squad players for the "lesser" teams. In the league you put out your strongest team and if Gyan and Sess are fit, playing well and scoring goals, Whickham and Ji will not and should not get a start. If we are winning well, I can see them getting cameo roles for last 15-20 mins. Yes, he will play them in Carling and possibly FA cup games to learn their trade from more experienced players. With the squad as is, an injury to either of the front men may see the introduction of Ji or Whickham, but if the pressure is too much for them I expect to see an extra man in midfield rather than risk these two. From what I have seen and heard in pre-season, Ji seems to be the most likely to break through during the season, but he is a little older at 20 and has more experience at international level. Whickham is an investment for the future, if he develops quickly its a bonus .......... lets give him a chance, give him the love and support that will ensure that he wants to stay with this great club for a long time.
Very good OP and one I enjoyed reading. Everyone has an opinion and everyone is entitled to voice it, however some opinions become negative rants and I stop reading them, sort of defeats the objective to me. I wish we would learn from the past, Welbeck and Bramble, two crap buys by Bruce who turned out not to be. Seems Brown is now getting the same treatment.
Thinking about it he wouldn't be that high up, but I still believe he'll be good, along with Brown. It's just the way you said it made it seem as though he isn't a good signing (especially on a free). Do you think he's a good signing?
Yep pretty much, a good solid squad player, don't see him in the first X1, but do see him playing a part. Cos we all know what happens with injuries/suspensions etc.
