You'd also be a better prospect!

<laugh>

Holty, holty, holty .... I think the point Dave is making is that whilst we laugh about people like Alf Common and Nobby Stiles, we're joking and we know we are.

Your comments about Campbell and Beckham can only be viewed in the same light. <ok>

Hope you are well by the way (I think)

Well we should stretch our wages to bring one in. Having ambition and hope doesnt mean you have no intelligence. I wasnt saying we should get Beckham as I know thats unrealistic - just pointing out that despite his age he would clearly improve us as a team. Bellamy, Woodgate, Hoilett I was suggesting we should chase.

Im good thanks, Gandy. Had a pretty bad few months for a couple of reasons I wont go into here but feel like things are on the up and feeling good about that. Hope you are well fellA

We simply can't afford them, that's all that needs saying. It's been a few years since we could afford Bellamy's wages. We need to consolidate with what we have with perhaps some careful additions, survival would allow the wage structure to maybe increase, but for now, we can't do it without endangering our very existance.

Incidentally, you do know you could repair her with a puncture repair kit? ( I'm Kidding!)

your best suggestions are campbell and woodgate? i honestly have no idea if these are your real opinions...if they aren't, you dedicate a serious amount of time to wasting other peoples...and if they are, well, what dave said...

We must have some money for one signing - weve got rid of quite a lot of wages and Bellers would be woh pusing the boat out for. I reckon expand the stadium as soon as possible and start growing. We've got the fan base to be a massive club. I understand we cant get loads of players but one marquee signing (bellamy or someone like donovan, woodgate, villa etc who other clubs dont need any more but are still good) will boost our global name, perfromamces and commercial sales
. Will pay for themselves

If Peter Ridsdale had a son, and he started supporting Norwich...

Seriously, the model for us is to keep doing what we've been doing. Young players that are right or the club (& the club is right for them), at a price and wage we can afford. The stadium will come, but we'll need to stay up this season first.
Through hard work, we've made our future bright. Now's not the time to change course.

Right Ok fine, seems like Im in the minority. Just want our club to realise our potential and play exciting football. I dont want to be a club who just live to survive in the top flight year after year. Like Bolton did for years. Id rather be in the championship than that as its boring in my opinion and Id like us to play good football. If we dont get exciting players in then I say invest massively, massively in our youth set up and produce some gems

Is it my imagination, or don't we have a few gems already?

None are that good though. Im talking about players as good as Oxlaide Chamberlain, Erikson, Ozil. World class talent. Why shouldnt we produce this if we really put time into a youth system

QPR fan, in peace, though that may be hard for you to believe....
Hoilett probably going to Germany by the looks of it, and I think he's asking for £50k a week. He's a good player and has the potential to be very good. At £4m, even on this wage, it's still likely, or at least possible, that he would be sold for a lot, lot more than his combined transfer fee and wages. You also have to remember that the transfer fee, is paid over the length of his contract, not all at once. Only the Russian pays cash up front.
You then have to put this in the context of £40m plus annual revenue from the PL/Sky and your other earnings. it is essential for clubs like ours to stay in the PL until the mega new TV contract kicks in ( I hate Sky and this cash is ruining football, but it exists and isn't going away).
With all this in mind, and although I admire your wage structure, don't you think you have to invest a bit, especially in players who you could sell on at a profit? I have no idea how big your debt is, but it will only be harder to service without the TV money. You are a well supported club with an envious catchment area, but over caution is just as risky as over ambition.

Everyones entitled to an opinion, dont see why it needs ti get personal. Just agree to disagree and both sides of the argument continue to make eloquent points to back up their respective theories

Great point, thats exactly what Ive been saying!

But then,you talk bollux.

Firstly, no problem with QPR fans on here talking football. The thing is, we have already invested in players who we could sell on at a profit, so where's the problem?

Pay someone £50,000 a week? What would the consequences of that be? Nonsensical. We're going about things in precisely the right way in my opinion.

In E Bennett, Pilkington, Howson, R Bennett etc we've already got players that (if they had to go) would go for a good profit. Let's not forget that with no significant player departures, what we currently have is a proven mid-table squad. That's not to say that it doesn't need strengthening, it does of course. But, the most important thing for us is to be financially viable. Our debt, come the end of this season will essentially be nil. That will be the first time we've been in that position in two decades. That's not just a case of tidying up a balance sheet, with the debt gone, whatever division we find ourselves in for 2013/14 we'll be in very good shape. It's all about taking a slightly longer view.

Is it my imagination, or don't we have a few gems already?

If you compare the output from our youth system with (say) Southampton's you would be hard pushed to say we have produced many outfield 'gems'. Rudd, Steer and Lewis are the only youth products with genuinely exciting potential. Korey Smith might yet prove me wrong, but as RBF pointed out recently he is not a youngster anymore and is getting to the point where he needs to produce.

Can everyone just please calm down! No one is trolling or needs to be upset. Right, I was thinking earlier - what about hijacking Boros signing of Jonny Woodgate. Class defender! We could use some experience at the back, an old english head now Drury has gone. Perhaps look at Sol Campbell, Roger Johnson, etc if we cant get woodgate.

still dont know why we got rid of Whitbread who is our best defender probs... What do you reckon

NO, NO, NO - his tackling can be rather wild and I was watcing one game last season when TP ad to substitute him after 15 minutes, as he was alarady on a 'yellow' and was in danger of getting a second and so sent off!!! Would far rather Curtis Davies than any of those mentioned WLOH. Whitbread left because of excessive wage demands.

As you say WLOH, everyone's entitled to say who we should be trying to sign, but IMO, we don't want to pay more than £5M-£6M for a player and certainly not one who comes with excessive wage demands or who is over 30. I'm quietly confident that last season's arrivals can only improve having had a year's experience (for the most part) of playing in the PL and I really don't foresee us playing negative football just to maintain our PL status

Our financial priorities should be in the following order
1) Pay off the debt
2) Build up the Academy to produce our own players
3) Build AND PAY FOR a new stand/stands/stadium
4) Save a bit of money for a rainy day
5) Continue to live within our means giving the Manager, whoever that might be at the time, as much as they can for transfers and wages without going into debt.

If that means a spell or spells in the Championship again then hard luck. I have been going to Carrow Road for 62 years and in that time, due to building up debt, we have nearly gone bust/out of existence 3 times. If they ever start spending money they don't have again then that will be the day I refuse to renew my season ticket.

I absolutely agree, being in the PL is nowhere close to being as important as the future of the club. the only thing that for me would be acceptable would be an affordable mortgage for any ground development. (and by affordable, I mean affordable even in the Championship). This would free up some funds to enable team strengthening to give us a better chance of staying up each year where the money is. Ultimately though, I would much rather see us playing in League 2 than not playing at all!

Cautious ambition is the way forward.
