so you dont have an answer then ..brush it off as a joke! so we cant really take anything you say regarding labour costings and plans etc ... well lack of them! fair do's

just noticed that of a previous quote!

My working life spanned over 64 years... in the course of it [ as is true of a few on here ] we never had all the soft touch's freebie hand outs and had to pay up to 17% for mortgages ... pay tax at higher rates had less sickness benefits and to boot shorter holidays! in a lot of cases just 15 or so working days paid leave plus a few days for Christmas! So do not try and belittle anyone on here who has managed to rise above minimum income level by their own endeavours or self sacrifices! .......

Not belittling you John, it’s a legitimate question. The £300 winter fuel payment is supposed to be for pensioners that can’t afford to keep warm over winter. It was never meant for ALL pensioners, the reason it’s a universal payment is it would be too difficult and costly to identify which people are due it. So in these difficult times should we continue a scheme that pays people that don’t need it, or would that money be better spent elsewhere.

I have concerns that many older people that DO need it will miss out. As long as these people are identified and get the money, I have no problem with the universal element being stopped. Bearing in mind I’m still working, but will entitled to get it shortly. Taking it away now means I will probably never get it, so plainly it would be in my interest for it to remain, BUT IT WOULDNT BE FAIR ON OTHERS.

Many younger people don’t have the ability to buy a house even, that’s not right we have to make society more equal.

the heating allowance was a one off payment to people over 60 or 65 [ state pension ] it was meant for all people on state pension!
The last .gov had no inclination to change it, it was "part of the " PENSION which had not been raised anywhere in line with inflation for years. it was published somewhere pre covid era in a comparison article that wages had risen over a period of years and pensions has failed to keep up by a long chalk and used the then lower payment annual figure as a make weight to reduce something like a 30% to 2? % [ thats somewhere in the twenties]
this year pensioners will be told they are getting 8% rise but after the tax and loss of £300 it is about 1.5%?
do I need it... well I am entitled ... entitlement means qualify or not you get it [ not referring to heating allowance just any handout ]
an illegal boat person steps of the boat and it costs the tax payer almost £700 a week whilst they are here... "entitled to bed and food and allowance for personal" yet many have state of the art phones phone home wear designer clothe's that is never declared?!!!

I’m comfortable that The universal element should be dropped, but i am concerned that a better way needs to be found to ensure all the worse off pensioners that need it don’t miss out.

With the increase in the fuel cap coming down the line, I am concerned the MOST VULNERABLE pensioners should be protected.

I managed to get 2 years of fixed gas and electric ended AUGUST 23RD 2023 WHAT A COINCIDENCE ON DATES i WRITING THIS NOW!

I took out a further 24 month fixed early part of this year ... will check it later against the proposed 6.24 /24.5 tariff it is going up to to see if I fall below that [ I saved over £900 pound with last fixed rate! ] currently, last 3 months have been paying over but using very little gas as is summer, usually heating goes on about OCTOBER was off in MAY.

I have tog 2 tee shirts and tog 2/3 sweat shirts for general wear during winter months [suitable indoors & out ].. heating sits at 21/22c from 6pm till midnight [ during daytime is set at 17c ... after midnight till 6.30am set at 14c rarely gets that low ]

Martin Lewis always has an alternative!! .. but between the lines is nearly always a dark message!..around 5000 people died of cold homes last year! within this scope there is always a cost those are 5000 who died... what about the cost of trying to keep them alive or the potentially "numbers" who had to recieve treatment via hospital or NHS visits! Now the cynical bit is "stop the payments, more pensioners die, so the bill for paying out there weekly is saved" an amount of around £65,000,000 for those that died last winter [ per annum ]

Labour is seemingly, in the wider picture, [ the amounts involved pro rata the fiscal need (gdp )] is penny pinching........

its 3 am and after chasing off a thief who broke into my van sleep is a bit difficult..
have been glancing at the Sunday paper headlines and it seems we are all in for a shock according to Kamikaze things are going to get a lot worse he rants due to the situation the previous .gov left us in. Now THAT is confusing because apparently according to the BOE/ FISCAL/ and the OBR figures...VIZ
    At a glance

A VERY encouraging outlook from all 3 bodies [ financial/fiscal ] and of course there are some others that forcast [ positive overtones ] a rosy future lying ahead!
WHILST THE ABOVE has still a couple months left to run for parity it is very encouraging what Labour inherited at July4th and now! Makes it even more of a "wonder what is going on" when we get pensioners being robbed of around £450 per year... andserious worries from the probation board on the releasing of hundreds of prisoners in September that will need to be supported by the state so that a few hundred protesters can be jailed. Which actually uncovers info from one of the chief top law persons to instruct magistrates and sentencing judges, that the sentencing of protestors should be delayed because no room for them.!

EX .GOV ministers have stated certain facts about the needless usurping of financial benefits to Pensioners and needy others as the £20bn was "covered by the recovery of GDP/ lower inflation / and the accompanying reductions of interest rates over the next 18 months.
THE MORE you look into it the need to take premeditated action like the penny pinching from the poor and pensioners is save them face because all their pledges are turning out to be as was stated by various avenues media/ .gov/ other parties to be unfunded. One would expect that if you could gather up all the "pots of where the money was coming from" to do the things a vast majority of fiscal pundits said were unworkable or not costed or wouldnt becost effective it comes to over the mysterious £20bn MINI black hole found just days after 4th July was found.

No wonder Kamikazies popularity has bombed ... didnt even get past 2 weeks of the so called 100 days honeymoon, and already there is some dissent regarding the rip off of pensioners a handful saying we need a vote on it and I wont say yes!

    Hope you’re ok John ?
There are some evil people around

The Labour Party used to be a party for the working class man or woman

Now they seem to be a party for the woke middle class elite and Reform are for the under represented working class

At the time I was working in double glazing and so no prob for window....... now there is quality!!! same window in place still and no replacing of double glazed units ..touch wood yet! The handle went wonky about 35 years ago! but still works! Just replaced , last year my 2 sealed units in my "office" window again fitted in same period. [ still have 19 sealed from that time 1983 /84.
4th break in of Ducato was outside proper job about 2012......
