Of couse Junior doctors deserve a negotiated, fair wage increase buut I just think it's amazing maths, cut pensioners £200 to £300 fuels allowence to fund doctors to have a bonanza £20000 to £30000 annual pay increase, I wonder what the next master stroke this bunch of twisters will hit us with and of course it's all the fault of the last government, absolute nonsense and that excuse will soon sound stale.

Imo if they’re going to stop winter fuel payments they have to ensure those that need it get it. There are lots that get that don’t though. I’ve no problem with stopping it, as long as the needy don’t miss out. I can see this policy will be visited again later.

I know a couple of ex teachers who have left the profession due to the stress of having too much to do in not enough time.

The two are separate issues. We have to address the problems in the NHS if we are to improve services, get waiting times down etc. moral is a major element to doing that. This issue has been festering for ages, the previous government should have dealt with it, if they had we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Absolutely it’s their fault it hasn’t been dealt with.

So the opposite is true, Labour now rule the roost, to deprive pensioners of their allowance is their decision, nothing to do with previous regimes, it's heartless, it's cowardly and it's typical of this bunch of flip floppers, hit the weak and submit to their trade union master bullies.

For those of us with long memories. we remember the pension grabs, the 75p weekly pension increase, the gold sales, the pathway Labour tread is long known, promises, promises, we are in for a bad time, we were warned,

In one breath you complain about blaming the last government that were in power 3 WEEKS ago, then mention something that happened last century <doh>

    edit
For the record I’ve already said in a previous post there’s a lot of pensioners that don’t need the fuel allowance, but equally lots that do, if they don’t ensure measures are in place to give it to the needy we won’t have heard the last of it.

My wife, dad, eldest daughter and aunt were/are all teachers.
It’s very hard work - and there’s a lot of ‘hidden’ work as you’ve said. It doesn’t end when the school bell rings.

You presented your opinion to which you are entitled, I gave mine, we are opposites politcally, I feel deeply let down by the Conservative party and the last government but when I see the spineless, reckless, spiteful start that has begun, when just 3 weeks in, the lies are exposed, the weaknesses offered and the direction we are travelling it causes me grave concerns, I honestly believe that people like you on the left are not that far away from where I walk but to steal funding fron the weaker members of society I find feeble and inexcusable and yes, you are correct almost breathless.

most??? well I would say at least 0.05% might! and of that around half would not get past first year!
I have been attended to by doctors that are ib their 20's [ 28?+ ] ask q when did you do your uni and which one, so you know / guess they were likely 19-20 at best when started training and takes around 6-8 years!
most doctors I know maybe 4/5 are now around 60+ and have had 30-35 in practice as a GP most worked 40 -45 hours per week for about 40 weeks a year!all were happy with their lot!

ps £40k is not my figure .. most doctors are on more than that...

As you said we have differing opinions and that’s fine. I agree though to steal funding from the weak is actually morally wrong, where I differ though is that many pensioners don’t need the winter payments, one on here has stated he gave his to charity. I actually question in these difficult times is it right we are giving payments to people that they don’t need, I see no issue with stopping payments to them, but we must ensure those that do need it get it.

Sorry John you are trying to defend the indefensible. What’s not in question is the doctors themselves feel they aren’t being paid enough, I agree with them.

RP cutting fuel allowance is just the tip of the iceberg .
How many actually know that the state pension is not a "right" although throughout my self employed years [ more than 30 I was advised that failure to pay £x for [ NI stamp ] NI contribution it could affect how much pension I get!
KAMIKAZE via that Viper Rachael has it in mind to "means test" every pensioner to see if they Qualify for a pension [ state ] It is slowly beginning to unfurl how they lied to cover the fact they actually had no realistically funded plans when they got in power! Skirted around a concise answer to the triple lock ............ but hey ho what have they done.,.. an evil sleight of hand in the next couple of month's the triple lock will indicate that pension should rise by £600 per annum....
well pensioners will only get £475 as £125 will be tax and mon payment of the £300 means they will only get £175 ...... E V I L or what!

REALITY.... humans, the real ones [not the scroungers or lazy barstewards ] have minds that assess what they want to do work wise... I had a variety of jobs..and quite a few redundancies, often going SE between them. EVERY JOB I had was MY PICK..... all SE interludes were my pick my last from 2000 to 2020 the longest period and hard work long hours but extremely enjoyable... [ on reflection I spent to much time doing it! ] Again my hobby takes me into realm of teachers and most state they enjoy the extended holidays... and do say often just a few get lumbered as some stick to the timetable .. 8 ,30 to 4/4 . 30pm 5 days a week and very little if any extra hours work [ most teachers being salary based?!
work for Tesco? some do the 40 hours and nowt else some do 40 and extra hours! etc etc etc

The Tories let themselves and the country down

Actually Wiz, SIMILAR BOAT of thoughts. I tend to analise stuff where a lot of people see something and take it as gospel! [ bigger picture syndrome ] You are pretty much correct, but I also felt let down by the tory party right back to jan 2020!!!!
However. always one of them!! it is not actually the party you should be blaming [as I was sort of also ] but second group of spineless asswipes that didnt vote to stop the unfurling disaster that is about to fall on us...... the second group? well the 8,000,000 tory voters that stayed at home.
After THE VIPERS speech yesterday certain shares started a downward spiral [ I have 3 of them! ] ..... THEY HAVE BEEN CLIMBING FOR THE PAST 7 OR 8 MONTH'S and next BOE RATE REVIEW IS ON WEDNESDAY when due to go down as Inflation figure hugs 2%

That’s an odd statement, surely you’d hope we don’t live to regret it?, regardless of which political party is in power I’d prefer people prosper

Every job I have had no one was ever happy with the money they got paid.. in the 60's the annual pay rise was always expected and minimum was generally around 2.5% in bad times when interest rates hit 15 -17% for a mortgage maybe 5%!
SO YOUR ARGUMENT HOLDS LITTLE WATER !

Of course everyone would like more, this is a bit more than that. They’ve been taking industrial action for ages, They feel undervalued and that they’ve been shafted, the example you give HOLD ABSOLUTELY NO WATER!
