Good on Ecuador, but Assange is nothing more than a figurehead. Will be interesting to see how we react.
I don't think we will. It will be when he leaves the embassy so that the UK have some leeway in a debate. I'd hope he'd be left alone though its not as if we are the model country when it comes to sticking up for dodgy characters with worse accusations against them than Assange.
The UK are allowed to revoke the immunity of an embassy due to act passed in 1987. Not sure if this was passed in direct relation to Yvonne Fletcher in 1984. However, my opinion is we should not be entering by force any embassy, as I feel this would be a breach of civil liberties, something this country is sadly eroding at an alarming rate.
Isn't this between Ecquador and Sweden?? If they want to harbour an alledged sex offender then so be it??
This a battle between the UK law which had every right to send Assange to Sweden, and the International law concerning political asylum. It's going to get ugly as both sides seem to be locked into a giant game of brinkmanship, where the loser fears a huge loss of face. I fear that the UK government has painted itself into a corner from which it can't emerge without pain.
I get the feeling Assange is just hiding in the embassy hoping all this will somehow blow over. In reality he's probably already in Ecuador as he'd have no chance of leaving the country now.
According to a article I saw, if Assange is in an Embassy car, he's protected. It looks as though Ecuador are thinking of giving Assange an Ecuador passport and a job at the Embassy which will give him diplomatic immunity.

There is no sympathy for Assange from Ecuador, they are only using this to stick two finger's up at the Yanks. I would think they would collaspe like a house of cards when international pressure is applied.
They may be just acting the **** Dev, but I can't see them just throwing up their hands and saying. "Yep we've made a prick of ourselves and we're sorry. Here he is, take him away." They know that the US and the UK wield a big stick, but they have the might of world opinion on their side. There will be no fast back down.
