Rafa learned a lot about english football in his first two years but also won two cups. he bought morientes so i think we can all forgive thinking he could get fit and be a big success... i eman borini could still be a huge success... if he learns to actuall kick the ball and not miss it. rafa bought jail bait like bellamy and pennent.... all managers make errors, the best ones correct them and don't repeat them... i think rodgers deserves at least the chance to correct the error of aug 31. At least ian ayre does cos lets face it he's LFC all the way and trying his best.... I don't detect the ego that made purslow so dangerous in ayre. Does anyone else?
I'm still undecided about Rodgers. He isn't the disaster Woy was but he doesn't look the great manager Rafa was. I'm not going to call for his head... but I doubt we will win any silverware with Rodgers at the helm.
well guys my opinion is FSG are more in the dock than rodgers. if they don't spend then winning a trophy is next to impossible. how many trophies has moyes in his shelf... big fat zero. there is a perfect example of how you can go so far and no further on small squads and small fees etc. The euopa league is well beyond us right now, simply put we've still got some quality but not enough to beat those spanish sides.... the FA cup is a lottery each year with home draws so vital.... and frnakly the league cup was wide open for us and we messed that up... so there's no trophies this year Can rodgers ever win something... sure. he's trying to do the basic right things at this point but we need to add real quality and that is a big question mark about attracting players.... If FSG bought the players like say abramoivch does we might not be any better off either... if rodgers can only attract unknowns and not the likes of the big names who could ignite us then maybe we won't ever win anything who knows? optimism = we're sure to win one cup once we buy huntelar realism = we're not going to win anything but we can improve and get back in europe with what we've got. pessimism = we are never going to win anything I perfer to be realistic
I have faith in FSG. Many fans don't believe in them but I think they are putting in a lot of effort. They have made mistakes along the way but they appear to be learning from them. They have a long term vision and strategy - young, dynamic manager, young playing squad,etc etc. I also have faith in Brendan. I remember when Rafa first came and he didn't have an amazing start but I always felt he would improve the team with time. I have the same feeling with BR. Slowly but surely, we're looking better and more cohesive. I'm also quite excited with the types of players that we're linked with as well .
FSG are doing well. Its just they are not rushing like other top clubs owners. Abramovich rushed in, and things slipped after a few years. Hicks and Gillette did big things in there first 18 months, resulting in us gaining Torres, Mascerano, Arbeloa, Lucas and Benayoun. But it turned out they couldnt actually afford it. FSG are being safe and wise. That will be better for us in the long run.
guys i have to say there is not enough evidence to back your claims about FSG, nor is there enough evidence to back an alternative view comparing them to G&H They have a lot to prove IMO. they've promoted form within after making anshow of recruiting a CEO. They've put guys in like cheng and taken them out. they've completely changed tack on managers and DoF They've dropped stadium completely and now we await news on redevelopment if the council allow it and new planning is required they've slashed the wages (which is ok considering) they've made big talk about buying who was asked for yet we find there's no money to buy and aug 31. the signals IMO are mixed and i think rodgers is sending clear signals their way to make funds available. may i say re ambramovich... so the guy is a meglomaniac and is stabbing himself in the foot half the time regarding managers but have you seen thier trophy cabinet since 2004???? IMO G&H didn't do that much in 18months, they gave some moeny that was borrowed to rafa and he bought torres and babale and maschernao. thats fine but what we are talking about is not RA spending to result in losses of 70mil per year not G&H borrowing 50mil to give to rafa. We are asking for FSG as our parent company to make the required funds available to put a side in place. they spend net 40mil under kenny yeah? well under G&H that would be par for the course. 20mil per year. under rodgers we've seen allen be a big buy and that was good, we say borini arrive but we've also seen lads like adam go so the net spend in the summer was 20mil or so.... again..... hardly any step forward considering most of the money comolli and keeny spend seems wasted. who knows what we got for aquilani, or for carroll's loan or paid for sahin. All we can say for sure is the club can afford to toddle along putting that moeny out each year with no europe unitlthe fan base evaporates OR IMO we can invest and actually go for 4th which is not exactly the ambition they keep expressing. No FSG have it all to prove to me at this point. 2 years in and really aside from the instant debt wipe off done by RBS in the sale what do we really have to show for it? not the kids they were ALL there, rodgers? time to judge is not here.... 35mil andy carroll? a new stadium, a new ceo.... all in all i think we feel very much like we did under moores. time has stood still for us in many ways. Perhaps thier business deals will make us far more moeny and perhaps thats going to be thier legacy.
Although I generally agree with that, I couldn't give a monkeys who we are linked to considering 80% of stories are BS (as are percentages on forums ), I only care about who we actually sign
2 years and i neither see the evidence that they are in it for the long hual with us nor do i see the evidence that they are just amateurs who are going to sell us... for me i think the jury is out thats all. oh and gerrez is right 80% at least is utter rubbish but it is interesting to note that fans know what we need but the media and agents still try to link midfielders and defenders ad nausem.
You say they have been here for two years and are yet to show a commitment to winning things, didn't we win a trophy eight or nine months ago...?
Might want to ask FSG why they hunted down an Amanda Staveley to find out how much the club is valued at by people in the Middle East? They also done the exact same thing this time last year too but using Ineer Circle Sports to get the valuation (they didn't do the Middle East though). It could be just a routine thing they do each year to see how the clubs worth is trending or they could be trying to smoke interested parties out. Interesting that we have some type of LFC Foundation or Academy in Qatar when its hardly reknowned for producing quality kids at footy. I suppose time will tell but people singing FSGs praises are premature and niave. The stadium issue will tell you everything you need to know about their intentions, just as it give the game away with H&G. Be wary.
Big post, and it's a bit unfair to pick up on one point, but I'm going to anyway Abramovich has certainly won stuff, but he's thrown a huge amount of money about to do it. We are supposedly being run as a business, and simply can't compete with the small change a multi billionaire has available. In the past we spent a fair bit, but a lot of it unwisely. FSG may simply be trying to avoid making the same mistakes all over again, so shouldn't we be behind them on this? Of course, you make money by winning things, and you rarely win things without some investment- but I think it's a bit early to judge whether they have the balance right or not. To link it to your earlier post- realism is wait and see. Both optimism and pessimism are speculation.
