Eire to put BMD comments into context regarding loan market. He said that he didn't like it and would only consider using it if the player was far batter than what we had and was avilable to to come on our books at the end of the season. So if we can buy him later and get part wages paid while on loan etc
How can you say Smith is an unknown quantity He couldn't make Oldhams first team and now he can't make yours Think it says rather a lot really
Let's just hope that when the loan window opens, we do some business when the players are available and don't wait until QPR, Forest, Watford etc get their fill and we are left with the dregs of the dregs! What annoys me is that GFH can't allow Brian to build a truly capable team (no wingers at all) yet they still bank on getting numbers through the gates at ER. How should I take that as a fan, how likely is it that fans will turn up week in week out now when we are more than likely 'building' for next year and this season has only just kicked off. I do however want to applaud Brian for who he has got in. Yes, we are short of a winger. BUT he didn't just go out and buy the cheap options (that would more than likely join the dross we are already stuck with in 6 months time when they are found out for what they are). He spent the money on Murphy and Wootton who will be the core of the team for the future. If we'd just been able to do the same with a quality winger, I would be VERY happy right now. If this is now just a consolidation season, I hope we blood Mowatt now and he is this seasons Byram!
...why should he suddenly be in demand... Eire? Because we've seen nothing of his nasty behaviour that made him one of the most hated players in British football, and because he has shown that he is still a class above much of the championship. He can still pick a pass, hold the ball up, and play for the team. I think BMD potentially has an interesting problem ahead; whether to play Diouf in a free role at the head of a diamond midfield thereby pushing McCormack up front, or leave things as they are and bring Diouf on as an impact sub.
Totally agree and one of the reasons he should have gotten at least a half hour against QPR. Certainly shouldnt be selling him
The transfer window went excellently! BM has proved he will not make panic purchases and that if the right man is not available, he will not just sign anybody to just keep the fans happy. On the signings we made.... We now have a young & very tall striker who already has outscored Morrison. A £1 million pound up and coming midfielder who seems better every match. A new young and solid Centre Back who looks set for very big things AND An experienced Irishman who seems like a great character for the squad who is also not scared to get stuck in. On the outgoings..... Morrison was sent packing just in time to get injured, plus we released a few journey men as well (Bromby, Somma etc). We kept hold of Byram (no one really thought we would) & we even tied down McCormack for 4 years. We let a few of the fringe players know that they need to prove themselves too With particular regards White & Diouf... I once had a lad work for me who thought the grass was always greener, so I let him have a bit of time off to see what other jobs he could find himself. He soon came back after realising no one else wanted him with an attitude that he better impress and keep the job he had. This is exactly how these two will react. Both will be keen to prove themselves with what limited game time they get, to earn a new contract or a move.
Old Peacock - If it is in them to get better yes sadly White will not improve, he just hasn't got what it takes, I said this 2 seasons back and it is becoming more and more evident. I am a little bewildered at the signings of both Smith and Hunt I would have to question the managers choice in signing them both, would I rather have a fit Somma or a Hunt? Granted he offers something different when he comes on (Smith) well you think he would but his inability to jump for the ball or use his feet and he is another that will struggle to make it at this level.
I can't really see how anyone can't find any positives out of yesterday. The manager said the team lacks width, the fans can see quite clearly that a winger or two with pace is what the side is lacking, and what do we do on deadline day? Nothing. It's sad how low our expectation levels have sunk, to expect to sign no one, but not lose our better players, is seen as a positive, as a step in the right direction. Another season written off by September, with mid table mediocrity the best we can hope for. Our lack of ambition is pathetic.
Small steps in the right direction will get us there in the end.We have been going backwards for a few years now essex,GFH have been honest, they don't have loads of money and unless you have multi millions put away thats just the best we can do.If Byram gets back to his best the play-offs are a reality so you never know.
I agree with you, its a lot like the economy you know the growth is small but at least its setting the foundations for better times to come.
I expect the fans to turn up, regardless of Sky. FFS...I travelled over to watch a feckin JPT which was also live...and I live in a different country.
Chesh sometimes I'm patient and think ok at least we're heading in the right direction, then I look at the tinpot clubs above us and in the PL and it pisses me off
I agree he has not shown any improvement since his last contract (when we were trying to hold onto him). I think Barnsley thinking your only worth half your current wages has to be a wake up call, to Aiden and his agent!
Have to be positive and think big TC,I'm sure you dream of being good enough to finish 4th from bottom.
Have you.....? We have beaten Ipswich away (Wall lost same fixture 3-0) & Brighton at Home (Wall only managed a draw). Draws against Leicester (away) and local derby against Wednesday at home. Only just defeated by free spending favourites QPR. This form would see us in the top six, but the season is still young and only time will tell. I can think of teams with less chance
Transfer window banished a few demons without really setting the world alight. As good as we could have hoped for, although I'm concerned that after 2 years Gradel has still not been replaced
