    Anyone with half a brain.

Obama wants everyone to be equal. So the lazy workshy sponging stains on society are treated equally to hard working citizens. Breakdown will ensue.

    Obama is thick and dangerous.

It would be good if the lazy workshy sponging stains on society in this country were treated equally.

Instead of giving the ****ers castles and crowns and **** <ok>

No doubt the Royals have privileged lifestyles, but I wouldn't say that they were workshy.

The Queens 80odd years old and still undertakes a lot of public appearances, FFS my Granda is 81 and is wired to the moon 50% of the time these days.

I was just pointing out the irony of ER using this comment on this particular thread.

The Queen reads dispatches every single day, apparently. A privilege and duty not all of her predecessors undertook so readily. I've said before that the current Queen is probably the best at her "job" that there's ever been - it's hard to imagine someone having that role thrust upon them doing any better especially considering the times she's ruled through.

    She's still an anathema.

So, that's the Queen's workload justified.

Prince Edward (to pick one out of thin air) or Zara Phillips. 40 hour diplomatic weeks for these two?

The Queen has done a remarkable job - agreed <ok>

The Royal family aren't perfect, but I still think that they're a better bet than a President.

I'd rather have someone accountable to the people rather than someone to whom the people are subject.

We're lucky we lived in a time where we have Lizzy instead of King Dave (Edward VIII) or George IV.

One disastrous king in modern times could turn public opinion.

It's funny watching the Helen Mirren Queen movie. I think it's easy to forget that they very nearly ****ed up their core support over a flag. The fact that there's still a monarchy in this country and that she's still head of state for Canada and Australia and the likes is more down to the individual Queen we have rather than the notion of monarchy.

A bad monarch could end monarchy, this is correct of course.

But the whole thing is so well choreographed and managed that I struggle to see where they could get it wrong, though stranger things have happened.

Never saw the movie that you reference.

    It's pretty good <ok>

It uses voxpops from folk outside Buckingham Palace from the time and I'd forgotten about these people (who were mostly very vocal Royalists) having quite an angry go at the Queen for staying in Balmoral and not flying a Union flag or the Royal Standard at half mast.

Mirren keeps the baps under wraps, though.

If Charles becomes king, I don't think he will be as good at staying out of matters of state as his mum is (when it's relevant). He just needs to say the wrong thing once or twice and modern public opinion could turn. Even vehement Royalists aren't as unquestioningly forelock-tuggers in the way some people have been in the past.

The wrong King and the wrong quote over the wrong incident could finish them (I'm thinking a sort of "Guns are ****ing magic" quote after a Dunblane-style massacre - not beyond the realms of possibility).

Even after Chick said he could bear the ****er, the obsequious ginger twat still bows, scrapes and tugs the forelock. Has the man no self-respect?
