American striker Jozy Altidore is expected to undergo a medical and sign a four-year contract with Dutch club AZ Alkmaar on Wednesday according to NOS Sport.
The 21-year-old striker has failed to find regular playing time in Europe since leaving Red Bull New York in 2008. Altidore signed for Villareal in June 2008 but failed to crack the first team regularly. The young striker was subsequently loaned out to Xerex, Hull City and most recently Turkish club Bursaspor, where he was unable to score on a regular basis.
AZ finished the 2010-2011 Dutch Eredivisie in fourth place, earning them a spot in the 2011-12 UEFA Europa league third qualifying round. AZ will be hoping young Altidore will be able to fill the shoes of breakout Icelandic striker Kolbeinn Sigþórsson who was recently sold to Ajax Amsterdam.
Altidore has 39 caps to date with the United States senior national team, finding the back of the goal 12 times since debuting in November 2007.
