Explosive finish that like, killer left/right to knock him over the first time, Povetkin did will to just get back up!
Yep, ridiculous. Povetkin was the only one landing damaging shots in most of the rounds. There were some where AJ boxed ok at range for half a round without ever hitting him clean, then Povetkin would land a big left or straight through the defence which should have given him the round. My mate had it 5-1 Povetkin, I had it 4-2 Povetkin. At worst, it was even.
Decent fight with Povetkin proving why he had such a good record, however, Joshua must have some punch to take this previous hard man out. Looking forward to more proper heavyweight fights against either Whyte, Wilder or Fury.
Joshua said post fight that he would fight whoever the public wants Maybe we need to vote for Mike Ashley.....?
We should send AJ to that Hastings Hill pub all the Mackems fight in. It would be akin to the royal rumble.... with AJ last man Standing.
I joined a cycling forum to win the French about the fact that they never win their own cycling showpiece and it’s usually a gimme that it’s a Brit or a Brit team who brings home their trophy.
This is probably one of the worst fights I have watched. Okolie looking like he was on Strictley Come Dancing the amount of holding he was doing. Only 3 points deducted for holding repeatedly, I would have disqualified him . Askin not much better but he just wasn't allowed to fight being grappled all the time.
People will probably look back in 20 years and say that the heavyweight division isn't as good as Fury, AJ, Wilder... It's got to be better now than game the Klitchko's cleaned up? There's a couple of good ones coming through and It's bubbling up nicely.
I had round 7 KO so I was a very happy bunny. Have to say though I had Joshua 3-2 down with a drawn round and I think it could easily have been 4-2 or even 4-1 to Povetkin. I thought Joshua did well though and looked a little more like his old self. Povetkin is highly skilled and well respected. At 38 Joshua seemed to know if he could take the sting out of him early, he'd get to him when he slowed and so it proved. I have no doubt a lot of that was down to McCracken, as he masterminded so many Froch victories the same way. Obviously Fury and Wilder both bring different things to the table. Joshua is certainly capable of dispatching both, but I think likewise they could both beat him. Fury doesn't really carry much power for such a big lad but his boxing skills and judgement of distance are better than the other two. I still think though we don't know where he is at yet. I always have concerns about boxers who balloon and come back. They get through a few duck eggs but things change when you step up. He's all wrong for Joshua and Wilder though if he is genuinely back. People shouldn't forget though that Fury is vulnerable himself and tends to back up with his chin high. Wilder can knock anyone out but I'd say he is the most vulnerable of the three. I've seen him outboxed a few times now and but for a dodgy ref his 0 would already have gone against Ortiz. His boxing skills are the least impressive of the 3, but that overhand right is massive. It knocks anyone out if he lands. I just think Joshua would probably take care of him with straight punches. I don't there is much between them and they could all lose to each other. Hearn knew what he was doing though because Joshua is still improving. He will be a more fierce opponent for Wilder or Fury in April or July next year than he would have been now.
Pretty much this. If Joshua doesn't get careless, Wilder will be a fairly easy night's work. Fury wins on points if he is still standing at the end of 12. I would expect him to be horizontal by the end of 8. Both fights would be ones Joshua should win but could come unstuck on.
If Fury comes back as good as he was before, I still think Joshua (Rob McCracken) works him out and buries him in the later rounds. Better lateral movement will not make up for a genuine lack of power, and old pillowfists will catch something harder than he has ever had before as soon as Joshua gets close enough. Klitschko was too busy trying to get around him, he just didn't think to walk through him. Wilder didn't get enough credit for the win over Ortiz. He's a top boxer, and to come back from being out on your feet (Yes, probably should have had a standing count or ref could have stopped it because he was throwing nothing back for half a round), to knocking someone like Ortiz out is major. Wilder carries power deep into fights and that's impressive. I think a robotic AJ needs to jab him to death and set-up a big right, similar to Povetkin.
Ortiz was a great win and Wilder can knock someone out in any round. He is just a very limited in the boxing skills department. Ortiz boxed his head off. If that ref didn’t weirdly jump in without reason (bar protecting the home guy and the money), he was about to be put out cold. That said if Klitschko had a killer instinct so would Fury and Joshua. When he started attacking Fury he was all at sea. Against Joshua he wasn’t willing to risk Joshua returning fire for some weird reason when he had him all at sea. It’s heavyweights of course so they can all be put to sleep. Fury is skilled but a myth has been created he’s hard to hit. He is if you wait until round 12 to do so! Joshua and Wilder are killers and wouldn’t allow him that luxury. All in all it’s very open which is great for us as boxing fans.
