I wish people would have a quick glance down the boards before starting new threads, all this merging is getting a bit tedious.

I wasn't suggesting that Koren should be played on the wing.

Tickles said we should bring Brady back, as Coutts would be as poor on the wing as Koren was. I was merely pointing out that in my opinion, Koren was better on the wing than Brady.

Well reading that it looks like Tunnicluffe's arrival is unlikely.

I know very little about this Coutts player but from what I have read he sounds similar to Tunnicliffe. Thought it was a bit odd that we'd be in for the both of them.

Heskey holding up the ball, king making runs. Sounds good.

i thought the players in the wide positions were our weak point last season, dont really want to knock the young lads who played there as they are only young and classed as prospects as it stands, but we struggled for assists and goals from these positions as well as consistency.

Would it be worth getting King and Brady back as first choice wide players? imo no, back up or squad players yes but not first teamers, we need proven pedigree in these areas if were to seriously challenge for promotion.

Much rather have Anderson and Aluko wide than King and Brady

I really don't think Anderson is as good as some on here seem to think. The Forest fans don't rate him at all.

any idea of andersons assists goals last season?

    17 appearances no goals.

Could be right. just cant see brady or king providing the goals and assists we need

There's nothing to say we actually are after him, it was only a media report. I'd be disappointed if we were after him.

The majority of assists from wingers tend to be crosses. As we had a team of umpa lumpas high crosses were always going to be basically useless to us. Low crosses you're relying on the players in the middle outpacing the defenders to get to it, or the defenders running at their own goal under pressure making a mistake and scoring an own goal. Fryatt didn't have the pace to beat defenders, or even keep up with the wingers, so by the time we had anyone in the middle to cross towards the defenders were settled and lined up ready to defend the cross.

Now last season I made that point about Brady being completely wasted for us and not being bothered if we got him back or not (January time). The fact we had nothing in the middle for him to supply with the ball made him start trying to do everything all the time and he became easier to defend against because he was always going to try and switch to his left for a shot. If we got Heskey or someone like that signed up, or brought King back and played him as a striker Brady would be one of the first players I'd be looking to bring in. We wouldn't face much competition because he was unimpressive within our team last season, he knows other players, and he'd be a lot better for us.

With regards the players Joyce is saying will be around the first team squad for next season (or trying to be), I get the feeling that means the League Cup squad rather than the PL and CL squad. I'm sure if there's the opportunity of a full season in the Championship they'd be available for loan.

I thought at the beginning of the year, Brady was excellent. He was on fire pre Season and tore the Scouse bastards apart.
He seemed to let his form slip and I don't know whether or not he just had a lapse of confidence or had been told something by his agent regarding future aspirations at Manchester United but I really thought we had stumbled onto some real talent.
I wouldn't mind taking Brady back, as long as Bruce can get the lads confidence sky high again, because both him and Josh King could have passed at times they should have done, shot at times they should have done but ended up losing the ball etc etc
But they are both rather inexperienced, especially at this Level and I would take them back.

Agreed. Also I think Brady's biggest problem is the lack of attacking positions the team got him into. We only ever seemed to get the ball out wide when the winger was already facing back at his own goal in a useless position. Stewart had the same issue. Maybe if we were a bit fresher towards the end of the season we could have moved the ball a bit better and got those positions, but I don't think it's as simple as saying all our wingers were ****.

True, we did play with the sort of 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 formation, which saw the two wide players a little deeper that what they would be in a 4 - 3 - 3 meaning they couldn't pose as much of a threat. We attacked mainly through Koren and through the centre and so Brady and Stewart were sort of left out.
King could improvise because of his blistering pace. <laugh>

Even after reading these positive comments about Brady, I would still find it hard to put him in our starting line up; therefore what's the point in signing a player thats not quite good enough for our first team?
