Why so you think that is?

Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in Football. Arguably the most marketable sporting franchise in the world, able to attract some of the best players in the world. It would be any managers dream job to test themselves at the absolute highest level, and yet apparently, Pep, Ancelotti, and Mourinho all turned down the job? Maybe it's perhaps because replacing Alex Ferguson is the hardest job in football for a manager and none of them were up to the challenge of breaking out of Sir Alex's shadow? Or maybe none of them were offered the job and they didn't actually get the chance to turn it down?

Is everyone forgetting what Jose did with Porto? How can anyone possibly say that he can only win things with a big purse? Remember it was actually United that Porto knocked out. Famously with a tenth of the budget. There are no white crows but it takes only one for that to stop being true. By this logic the myth was already debunked before it started! Jose can do it with or without huge funds. It just so happens that teams with deep pockets will pay to have winners on board.

Jose is hiding face, SAF told him he would not get the job, so he was forced back to take Chelsea.

    This is all true :)

When was the last time that happened though? Hazard and Yaya Toure both chose Chelsea/City respectably over you.

Nothing you've said is wrong, but the same applies to Chelsea and City, meaning you have no advantage over the rest of the league.

Real and Bayern are better prospects to manage, that's the reality.

Shame he never had the bollocks to test himself at a bigger level like the real greats have. Big fish in a small pond syndrome, typical bullies mentality.<ok>

He did. The European cup. And never beat a marquee club like Real, Barca or Milan at their best in 27 years of trying

With the money he had run through his hands winning European titles are not as easy as buying premierships. Bob Paisley won more in 9 years on a relative shoestring.

I think SAF is too hard to follow immediately. I wouldn't want the job right now. Good luck if Moyes manages to hold on to the position for his actual contract. The fans are the ones he has to satisfy and they have high expectations. Fourth in the league would be completely unacceptable.

We've all seen what fans do when a legend/favourite is replaced. Personalities aside SAF has an incomparable managing record. Realistic, logical thinking fans are almost non-existent. Moyes has to continue Man U's performances and as we've seen at Chelsea if the players don't buy into the manager they can and will screw it up in hopes of getting him out. Ninety nine point nine of soccer players are mercenaries, it is their career not the team's.

I concur that quite a few managers didn't go to Old Trafford because of SAF's legacy despite the opportunity for success. As for Jose, this could be true too, but at least for him he always had Chelsea to go to and Chelsea also has the same opportunities for success as Man U.

To discount that, 4 CL finals, 3 in 4 years, and in the past decade England has had how many finalists? Liverpool twice, United 3, Chelsea 2 arsenal 1

7 CL finalists in 10 years is not a small pond and he's picked up how many titles in that time?

Granted him staying at United certainly helped consistency with the league for them but in no way was the PL a small pond in terms of good teams. Sure you claim your club the match of barca and bayern, are you not in the same league as United, so what went wrong or do you not consider your club a top club, cos that is what you just said<laugh>

are you HIAG, when someone makes a gaffe of a post, you have to jump in and say it was fishing, seriously HIAG and Spuds like EC, I expect better.

    Then you insult, expected.

What I said was true, it was stating that the PL is stronger with the teams in it, including Chelsea, Ossie's post in a round about way belittled Chelsea.

How you read into it defending or supporting Fergie is <yikes>

When you finally grab enough of them straws you won't be able to make strawberries I'm afraid.

SO every time a post gets turned to Null, it was only fishing. Nice try but I just dont believe you

    Robin Van Persie?

As far as Yaya Toure goes, I don't recall ever actually attempting to sign him, and if we were that was when City where throwing absurd amounts of cash at players to come join.

Regarding Hazard, we had already signed Kagawa and I'm not sure we made Hazard a top priority target. I'm sure we tested the waters with a bid, but weren't willing to pay the same amount you were. Not saying he would have picked us over you had we matched your offer.

Pep had agreed to a deal with Bayern long before Fergie had retired so I don't really Guardiola was ever in the running. Mourinho clearly had his heart set on Chelsea so the only real wild card was Ancelloti. I doubt he was actually a serious candidate. The Moyes appointment makes sense as he brings in the hard working values that Fergie had instilled through all levels of the club. He wouldn't have been my choice, but it's the most reasonable signing the club could have made.

United were looking for another Fergie and they think they have found one in Moyes. Doesn't take a genius to work that out. Whether Moyes is or not is up for debate but I reckon that is the case.

Jose is happy to be back at Chelsea regardless of what anyone says, I just cant wait for the season to start so the threads can be about football, refs, bites and goals <ok>

Excellent post. Moyes will do ok at Old t as the set up is so good. mourinho would have dominated taking united to new heights ... 90 plus points and european cups....but ruffled feathers. And northern clubs are conservative and don't like to rock the boat.
