Andy Hughes has told Charlton: Pull out all the stops to keep Jose Riga.

There is uncertainty over who will be in charge of the South Londoners next season as the head coach only arrived on a short-term deal.
And even though Riga did his job - keeping the Addicks in the Championship - he has still not been confirmed as taking the helm in the future.
Hughes has warned that Charlton run the risk of losing key players - and also failing to attract them - if they do not move quickly in filling the role.

He said: “Charlton have still not named a manager and they need to get that nailed down - they are going to miss out on players and existing players. For me Jose Riga is the number one choice. The players like him, the staff like him and he likes the club and area - and he has got a feel for Championship football now, he knows what it takes. The players and staff want him to stay. They need to do what it takes to keep him here. It is vitally important that Roland Duchatelet employs someone this week. They are going to miss recruitment. Other clubs are moving on players. They are missing out. I don't understand the time taken, why is it so long?

They need to appoint Jose Riga as quick as they can. I don't understand why they are even contemplating bringing another coach in. Jose Riga came in when the club was in a tough position and he managed the situation well."
Impresssive quote, Vol. Where is it from?

I have been very lukewarm about signing JR. For me, the only thing in its favour was the likelihood of RD getting someone worse.

However, if Andy Hughes really said that, and it really represents his thinking, that would win me over.

Not because I think Andy Hughes is some kind of infallible oracle, but because I would have thought he would have been the last sort of person to have favoured Riga, If Riga is good enough for him, I am convinced.

My only reservation is that he could be arsekissing Riga in the expectation of a job. Maybe to replace Euell in charge of the u21s? Any other more minor coaching post available he could probably match elsewhere oop north. My suspicions of Hughes joining the staff soon was aroused by the over-the-top testimonial posted on the OS when he left.

this was on the SLP. i cannot understand for the life of me, why no decisions are being made. go on teamtalk, literally every other club has announced their released list. we'll give everyone a head start if we dont act soon.

We always give people a headstart... only time I remember us agreeing one of the first transfers of the season was Cory Gibbs.. and we all know how that turned out

To do well next season, we need to finish above teams like Bolton. Bolton have already signed three players this week, including Feeney from Millwall, and our own DD. I am not panicking by any means, but this is frustrating. We can all put 2 and 2 together and reach our own conclusions. The consensus on the Charlton websites seems to be a new foreign manager that is not Jose Riga. So we are back at Square One again.

i'd say it is a bit further than frustrating. still... it's not our millions at stake. i'm sure the duch knows what he's doing. (yeah right!).

seen it on twitter a lot lately... who's making the football decisions whilst no football man is in place? who says when pre-season starts? who's recruiting? who's saying who to keep?

i get more anxious about it the more i think about it. still, come august we'll have a nice new pitch to play on. no players, but at least we can rent it out for the odd five aside without it shredding to bits.

It was one of the factors of our success in building a League 1 winning side that the targets were earmarked early and signed early, giving the team most of the pre-season together. We subsequently hit the ground running and never looked back.

Whats the actual obvious reason Rd would not want to appoint Riga ?

RD told Riga, in much the same style that Gold and Sullivan have told Big Sam, that Riga has to devote all of his time to the club if he signs on; meaning Riga must stop his part time line in being a Leslie Nielsen tribute act.

Riga reportedly said 'Don't call me Shirley' before running out before RD could take back his club suit and tie.

Oh yes, I'm ITK too you know...

Riga told RD that his Network players were a pile of old ****e who would struggle on Hackney Marshes.

RD replied, ' no problem, I will employ a coach who will play them'
