Seen him quite a bit Chappaz, as it happens.

The Dutch League is widely broadcast on bet365, pretty much every PSV & Ajax game is on their, as well as ESPN showing the early game on a Sunday last season.

****'s a bit extreme, but i'd say average, and that's in a weaker league.

He'll be ok i imagine, but he's certainly markedly weaker than Jose.

Big lad mind, 6 footer.

Come on now mate, I know Holland are weak in that area, but they're one of the best national teams in the world, so you don't get the first choice left back spot at the age of 22 by being a very average player. Out of all the left backs the entire country has to offer, Pieters is first choice, so there's a little more to him than plain averageness.

I'm not saying he's a world beater, and the fact that Holland have always had a weak left back spot means that the point cannot be used to justify him being awesome, but he's a good player, and he can fill the void. I honestly won't miss Enrique's attacking play a great deal, so if Pieters can be relatively solid defensively, he'll do me fine.

His pedigree and the play I've seen from him make me much less concerned about Enrique's departure.

That lot will be selling the tea set out of the boardroom next. Pardew has now lost 3 or their best 4 now and Barton is out in the cold. They look set for a long hard winter. They must be looking like favourites for the drop. What are the bookies saying about their chances?

9/2 bet365
5/1 totesport
11/2 william hill
9/2 Stan James

Why can't people fathom that in losing some of our best players, we're gaining some of our best players?

Cabaye > Nolan, by a mile

Ba > Ameobi/Lovenkrands, by a mile

Ben Arfa, says it all

Marveaux, Obertan, good squad wingers

Pieters, not as good as Enrique, but still good enough

Barton, still here and doesn't want to leave

Many of our 'best players' have been replaced by players who are either almost as good, or better. New players are also coming in to fill a number of weak spots we had last season.

It really isn't as bad as some people seem to think.

Actually Cabaye is better than Nolan by about a 100 mile.

Why are you lot constantly writing articles about us? We knew Enrique was going and for 6-7 million is good considering he is on his last year on his contract. Don't know much about Pieters but you can't say he is average because he is in the dutch league. We got Tiote from that league and look at him.

just asked a mate i used to play football with in eindhoven, (psv season ticket holder) what he thinks of Pieters,
i was trying to get the best opinion of him from a dutch guy who watches him live every other week,
and all he said was he is alright nowt special hahahah what a waste of time!!

Why not? considering we're playing your lot soon, seems fairly topical.

We enjoy listening to some of your lot opinions.

Could ask the same question.

Why are you on this board? cos your interested.......see question answered.

No one is saying he is avereage cos he is from the Dutch league, just saying he is average because he is.

Not really. He is 22 and has plenty of time to improve.

Simply because we know that many of you lot spend half of your time lurking on this board...

This all seems very stupid. Some saying he's good, others saying he's average. An average player from the Eredivisie is hardly going to be any good in the PL. And a good player is hardly guaranteed to be any good in PL either. Thats not to say he couldn't make the step up.

No one knows how players will adapt but by saying a player will be good or an improvement is just simply posturing.

Commachio, of course it'll be a massive loss, but we can't argue with money.I've said it before and I'll say it again if the super rich clubs want players, they can have them. I'm gutted that he's leaving, but I've resigned myself to this ever since he started becoming one of our best players.

If Gyan has an absolute barnstormer of a season but Sunderland don't reach Europe, he'll be off. You may disagree, but when Spurs, Liverpool or Chelsea come in offering him double wages and a £1m signing on fee, he'll lose interest in Sunderland, much in the same way Enrique has with us. You'd have to be a complete idiot not to see he lost interest towards the end of the season and it showed in his football from time to time.

Teams like ours are stuck in endless cycles of replacing our best players. Whilst we both have billionaire owners, they're not prepared to put the same sort of money into the clubs that the likes of Mansour, Abramovich or Henry are. And for that reason, we'll never compete with them.
the thing is though dave any money we recieve from future sales would definately be re-invested in the squad, unlike nufc where they continue to **** you fans over, 2 very differently run clubs and sunderland just happen to be lucky enough to have a very good owner/chairman

I know how the mags must feel. We've also lost our star left back to the Hammers. To soften the blow could we not give them Killgallon as a direct replacement on a free.

Will we ever find a better replacement?

The W Ham fans are actually pleased that they have him again.

Pieter's aint a quality replacement, if you wan't a young dutch LB Van Aanholt is a much better prospect.

What a ******ed comment considering Pieters is in the current Holland squad whereas PVA has done nothing so far with his career.

Really hope we sign this guy.
