What do Man Utd do now? Have an interim manager [Ole, I was a staunch fan all the time he was at Man utd, almost from day one ] that suddenly turns it around, gets them "something", has the team playing for him then says "bye Ole" and have had a manager sitting in the wings like Jose WAS!
BEAR IN MIND the Norwegian season starts in march so is that his tenure? less than 3 months or do Molde start without him!
MAN U is a mess of their own doing methinks

Nothing wrong with appointing an interim manager - otherwise you're saying 'We're going to commit to the next permanent manager, who we want to stay for years to come, but we're going to restrict our options and pick from who is available to start within the next couple of weeks at most.'

Man Utd have partially gotten into this mess from trying to scrabble together short-term solutions, or high-profile signings, without thinking about how they contribute to the team. Biding their time to pick the right manager who might actually be able to build something from the ground up is actually the more sensible option.

...or if Solksjaer turns out to be an excellent fit, give him a longer term contract. Wouldn't likely have much issue buying out his existing contract from Molde.

Always difficult responding to you John because your writing style makes it difficult to understand the point you're trying make.

Fully respect your opinion whatever it is, but what about the last 1 or 2 appointments make me so wrong about suggesting Man Utd have suffered for chasing big names over planning for the longer term?

When the great Matt Busby retired United found themselves in the wilderness for many years till Fergie came along.
I wonder if history is repeating itself.

Certainly seems possible, though I wouldn't expect quite as dramatic a downfall - I compare it more to Liverpool after Dalglish through Souness kind of era.

I can't imagine a young manager being given the same time to establish themselves and their ideas as Sir Alex did, but they probably need something of a rebuild.

Well, I was referring more to players bought (Alexis Sanchez a prime example), but you have raised an interesting point, though I'm not sure it's true van Gaal knew his days were numbered for months - his press conference after winning the FA Cup was infamous.

After Moyes failed, van Gaal had made some progress in getting them back in the Champions League & winning the Cup, whilst giving Rashford his break & continuing Lingard's progress, but then was out on his ear when the 'sexier' option of Mourinho became available. To be fair, getting back to 2nd, a League Cup & Europa League alone sounds solid, but now Utd are arguably lower than they were before Mourinho came along.
