I think if it's just gentle booing it doesnt really matter, they expect it and it's all just the pantomime of football as someone said earlier. I do think the harsh chants and targeting players is a bit much if they left on decent terms though.

I wish more were like Solano, getting a rousing applause. But then, few earn it like he did.

There is certainly different degrees of what we're talking about here. My view is the following with examples to boot:

Boo those who deserve it because they didn't respect the club either while they were here or after they left (Bellamy, N'Zog amonst others)
Cheer those who have given great service and left on good terms (Enrique, Ferdinand, Solano, Watson)
Remain indifferent to those who just left as part of football or didn't have a massive impact on the club to warrant a response (Carroll, Kevin Scott amongst others)

I'm not condemning all booing either, just the morons who do it out of hatred and shout abusive chants etc. There is a difference between pantomime and what a good section of our fans indulge in. I don't mind saying, I'm usually very defensive of our fans, but I couldn't lie and say we're great in this regard. We're one of the worst.
