Rangers are poised to capture Mutch, 22, for £5m after activating a release clause in his Cardiff contract. Did no know about that one, who else has one? http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/rangers-agree-signings-of-mutch-and-isla-football8422
I stuck that up on the paper talk #2 thread earlier DJ - I think the West London Mafia are looking at old news rumours.
I'm pretty relaxed about him going TBH. 1. He was always likely to go; any outfield player scoring 7 is worth his weight in gold, and that was in a struggling team. 2. I don't think he would have had the same drive in the championship. 3. He is too hot and cold for me. Some of his displays last year were poor. He goes missing. When he was hot, he was superb (Newcastle at home, United away, Sunderland at home etc) but in some games he just was non existent. I am surprised that a bigger club has not come in for him. QPR are likely to struggle. City do need to get in a like for like player - the midfield had no drive versus Wolfsburg; too slow.
So true Nin. Our strikers, while paying well, were feeding off scraps. We need to dominate midfield to give our front guys the ammunition needed. When Mutch is on song he provides that drive at pace and puts the wind up defenders.
That is the most telling part of your post Bluey - all too often, he wasn't. Super skills and a quality that few others in the City team possess, but he didn't do it often enough for me. Often looked off the pace and unfit. Although he's a different sort of player, I think Daehli will do the business as provider - if anything, he's potentially MORE skilful than Mutch.
He's young and was/is developing. He would have been different class in the championship imo. He was the one outfield player that proved he was PL class in our squad. I'm surprised he's not going to a better club, but not that Harry wants him as he's always had a good eye for a player.
Agreed on the skills side but Daehli lacks pace and even when he beats his man doesn't have the speed to take full advantage. As a result he has a tendency to run into other players and lose any advantage gained. In saying that he is still young and will surely learn Mutch can drive at defenders at pace and leave people floundering in his wake. He has a style we haven't seen for many years and have been crying out for. Accepting his off games, I wonder just where OGS will get a sutable replacement at decent money - and more improtantly - who???
OK guys - accept your opinions about Mutch and it isn't a question of sour grapes that he's going, but he blew hot and cold far too often for me. His forward surges were something to behold and will be missed. However he was as often as not equally ineffective. He may well still be developing, but you can't develop character. When things weren't going right, he could go missing. From the little we've seen of him, I doubt you'll find that trait in Daehli - and if Mutch is still developing at 22, what is Daehli doing at 19? One for the future maybe, but I rate him as one for now as well. He could be a major target for one of the big boys with a full season under his belt with us.
No probs DJ - looks like that's it then - another £6M in the bank. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/.../cardiff-city-midfielder-jordon-mutch-7561537
I'm a bit confused we may miss Mutch but he can blow hot and cold, happy with the £6M and we do have a full hand of midfielders. Hope he can stay fit, missed a few games injured for us, so all in all not a bad deal.
DJ - I'd have taken the £5M offer for him with only a year left on his contract, but then again I'm not Dalman who's proving to be the best thing Tan has ever brought to the club. Let's hope Ole follows up in the same fashion with the on-pitch matters.
We shouldn't miss any players who leave. That's the way the game is now. Most of the players are footballing mercenaries looking for the next big fat cheque for them and their blood sucking agents. All that matters is Cardiff City Football Club.
The problem we have is Cardiff City for close on 40 years was a club to be used as a stepping stone or to play your last one or two years for. Only since Tan came on board has that changed it could take a few years before good players see that.
Mutch will be a quality addition. We certainly didn't go down because of him. Caulker on the other hand.......
Sad to see him go, he is class, butom adeyemi is lined up to replace him. Similar type player with better defensive skills apparently.
Not sure where you are getting that mutch is pacey and daehli is not. At the recent q&a the players were asked who is the quickest player, they all answered daehli. If you pay attention to his game he has a very quick acceleration, he tends to loose players with quick bursts of speed and quick tricky feet. His acceleration pace is far quicker than mutch. He doesn't keep it up though, his tendency is to glide past players and then slow down a bit. Mutch is a more direct player, he surges forward with great drive. But I would not say he looks quicker. Both good players, quite different though. Both young especially dahli and surely set to develop a lot. Understand that mutch wants to play pl football, I think we are lucky that daehli didn't eff off back to the pl too.
