He was arguably the best striker around at that time, and should have been selected to play for England.
Agreed Vetch! Although there was the joke that did the rounds which went something like Bill Shankly told Phil Thompson that he was marking Latchford in the Merseyside derby, and, if he moved, "Follow him - it's half-time!"
Shankley was just great. Modest, self deprecating, good man manager, knew the game, terrific sense of humour. I could go on,but the Monk followers won't approve, not to mention jealous.
Will be watching wit interest later. Hope he excels and keeps a regular place in the team. Good luck Jonjo, you've earned it
"Jonjo Shelvey has been at the centre of some decent moves. He has certainly given Roy Hogson food for thought but is he good enough to make the squad for Euro 2016?" A predictable comment from the BBC website......
Well some one liked his efforts http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...f-Englands-stars-as-Rooney-breaks-record.html
Class performance by JJ in a team that struggled to take advantage of his probing passes until late subs gave them bit of pace & bite. Superb through ball for Kane to break his goal drought, Hodgson would be mad not to include him in his England squad for next summer's Euro tournament.
So,Hodgson knows where The Liberty Stadium is,and selected a Swan to represent England. Will he have the bottle to make it two,by picking Cork sometime soon? Now,wouldn't THAT be something to shout about?
Yep, he has to be happy with his performance. He played very well and was central to everything England did. Would like see him being selected against higher ranked teams now, I think he's earned his shot now. Would love to see it but if it happens we'll need to replace him in the summer.
Still not sure he'd be a big enough "name" to attract the top four and a move elsewhere should really be seen as sideways at best with us consolidating our league position every year, and improving. Liverpool might still be close to his heart though.
Hope your right DG but Man City and Chelsea have a history of signing players for the bench; I believe to stop other clubs having them. I hope, if offers do roll in, that Shelvey realises that here he is and will be at the heart of the club but elsewhere he may well end up on the outside looking in.
If Jonjo plays in the Euros squad and excels then the bigger clubs will come calling. By bigger clubs I mean the likes of Barcelona and Real!
Those clubs have a history of signing players not even for the bench, Stumpy. But I agree there's an element of stockpiling. Players should realise that the big bucks are not always worth it in the long run.
This is where the club must sort out this extension fiasco sorted asap. we have proved that we are capable of competing with the best but our stadium is holding us back some what. We are becoming a very rich club and should we do well this season then with the extra revenue then our riches will be even greater. The so called big clubs are called that because they have billionaires on their boards but at the end of the day they are just a club like us who can only field 11 players like us and a £200k/week player does not mean he is any better than a £50k/week player. What does make a difference is the stadium and we have the 2nd smallest after Bournemouth and we have the potential of 35k each home game the way the club has grown and still growing. If we carry on the way we are then we would be seen as a big club especially if we can finish in the top 6 which i believe is a real possible.....
